The author of more than thirty books for children, Jane O’Connor is no stranger to New York Times Bestseller list for her famous work Fancy Nancy, her book has given birth to toys, games, apps designed for children and numerous book reading events has been hosted across libraries and bookstores across America. She is the vice-president and the editor for Penguin Books for Young Readers. Her style of writing is that of an imaginative plot where she inspires children at a young age that reading can be fun.

Jane O’Connor is a New Yorker, born in 1947. She went to college to Smith College in Southern Massachusetts and graduated in 1969. She started her career working in various publishing houses such as Hastings House Publishers, Scholastic, Random House and Grosset & Dunlap from 1971 to 1989. She wrote her debut novel in 1979, Yours Till Niagara Falls, Abby. Due to the success of the book, she was encouraged to writing books for children as a second career while she still kept her full-time job.

Jane O’Connor has primarily written the book for children. Some of her juvenile novels include Yours Till Niagara Falls, Abby that is one of her first books to Just Good Friends, The Dandee Diamond Mystery, The Amazing Bubble Gum Caper, The Magic Top Mystery. For beginning readers can start with Lulu and the Witch Baby, The Teeny Tiny Woman, Lulu Goes to Witch School, Molly the Brave and Me and Nina, Nina, Star Ballerina to name a few. Some of her nonfiction works include Magic in the Movies: The Story of Special Effects, The Care Bears’ Party Cookbook and The Emperor’s Silent Army: Terracotta Warriors of Ancient China.

One of the early characters invented by Jane O’Connor was Lulu in her books Lulu and the Witch Baby followed by the next book Lulu Goes to Witch School. Lulu is a spunky young witch who is fed up of her baby sister because of all the attention she gets from her mother and never gets scolded for anything that she does. Lulu prepares a potion and uses a magic spell makes her baby sister disappear. She gets really happy on her accomplishment but as time passes she gets really sad about what she has done and how her baby sister would be scared without her, decides to get her back by undoing her spell. It is unknown to Lulu, but not to the readers that it is her mother that made her baby disappear and Lulu herself. Jane O’Connor is able to get the attention of her young readers by the imaginative plots and the details she puts into her story that children love to hear about.

Jane O’Connor has also created characters of young hard working girls where she inspires children at a very young age to be determined by their goals. One such character she invented was Nina in Nina Ballerina where Nina is worried that her mother will not see her in between so many other dancers that are dressed similarly like her. It takes Nina, mother, to convince her that she is there to see her, and she will be able to spot out her lovely daughter.

Another such character invented by O’Connor is Kate in Kate Skates. Kate is a very promising skater. When Kate gets a new skate for her birthday, she gives her old skates to her younger sister Jen. Jen seems to be a naturalist in skating and quickly learn the moves on the ice. It is time for Kate to fall on the ice as she tries to get used to her new skates that are bigger in size, but she learns to maneuver her new skates. When her younger sister Jen falls getting bullied, Kate steps up and plays the role of an elder sister protecting her younger sister.

It is an excellent read in the series and the one that shows all the exciting way Nancy lives her life in a fancy way.

One of the early books written by Jane O’Connor was Yours Till Niagara Falls, Abby written in 1979. In the story, O’Connors tells the story of two longtime best friends Merle and Abby. When Merle’s parents decide to send their teenage daughter to a summer camp instead of taking her on a vacation with the family, Abby finds a way to convince her parents to send her to the same summer camp. But in the turn of events, just before their summer breaks starts, Merle breaks her leg in a dance class and finds herself in the house for the summer vacation instead of going to the summer camp. Abby has a hard time at the summer camp not being able to gel well with her new roommates, competing in sports and taking orders from her not so friendly summer camp instructors meets a new friend called Roberta who helps her get through the summer camp with ease. Abby is now in a dilemma that how is she going to make her friend with Merle. Towards the end of the book Abby is able to reconcile, Merle and Roberta

It is an effort to attract the next generation of fans, this bestselling book already includes more than 60 titles and has sold over 28 million copies, Nancy is a young girl who aims to be fancy in all aspects of her life.
