About James Redfield
When it comes to spirituality and the scope of human awareness, James Redfield is an American author at the forefront of this field. Creating numerous books and guides over the years, he’s become a name synonymous with the genre of religion and spirituality. Many of his books have gone on to help countless readers from around the world, as he imparts universal truths through his writing. An integral part of the New Age movement, his name has become a mainstay for the bookshelves of many, with his brand now being a household name worldwide.
Originally coming to prominence during the nineties, Redfield would come to be known for his key-work with ‘The Celestine Prophecy’ in 1993. Following this up with a number of other books, many would come to live by his writing, as he would seek to offer life-lessons through his writing. Telling the story through the perspective of its protagonists spiritual awakening, it would fast go on to become a bestselling sensation all over the world. Regardless of readers backgrounds, the books would reach a universal truth speaking directly to his audience in a meaningful manner.
Essentially writing modern day parables, Redfield seeks to understand deeper meanings through his fiction and writing. Using his characters and stories as a platform for this, he’s managed to really draw readers in from all over, resonating with them on a personal level. Early and Personal Life
Born in Birmingham, Alabama, in the United States on the 19th of March, 1950, as he would grow up with an interest in philosophy. Attending Auburn University he would go on to receive a master’s degree in counselling, as he would become a therapist for many years, dealing with and helping abused adolescents. During this time he’d come to refine his own outlook on life, finding his way in the world, and creating a philosophy of his own.
Largely studying the Eastern philosophies of Zen and Taoism, he would spend more than fifteen years as a therapist. It was only until he would go on to publish his first book, ‘The Celestine Prophecy’ initially in 1992, that he would find success as an author. Currently living in Alabama with his wife, he continues to practise meditation, as well as working as a lecturer, teaching and helping others.
Writing Career
One of the most notable aspects among many of James Redfield’s literary career is that he started out in self-publishing. Releasing his debut ‘The Celestine Prophecy’ in 1992 himself, his work would fast go on to become one of the biggest self-publishing success stories to date. In 1994 Warder Books would go on to purchase the rights to the hardback edition of the novel, as he’d quickly reach the top of the ‘New York Times Best Seller List.’
Fast becoming an international success, Redfield would go on to see a film adaptation of his work, although it’s his writing that remains most fondly remembered. Working as a screenwriter as well as an author, he would prove himself to be ever versatile, reaching audiences and readers from all over. Winning numerous awards for his work too, he’s gone on to follow up his first novel with his ‘Celestine Prophecy’ series, and his writing continues to resonate today.
The Celestine Prophecy
Originally this was brought out by James Redfield himself in 1992 and then later published in 1993, and then through Warner Books in 1995. It would introduce Redfield as a writer for the first time, establishing both his style and what he had to say as an author. The book would also pave the way for a series to follow also titled ‘Celestine Prophecy’ as it would go on to become a global bestselling sensation.
A classic work infusing mysticism with an adventure style narrative, it’s a well told parable with a simple and easy to follow premise. This makes it the ideal vessel for the message itself, making it easy to digest, with plenty of deeper meaningful concepts. Offering some elements of self-help too, it’s definitely a worthwhile read with plenty to offer readers from all backgrounds.
Beginning with the disappearance of an ancient Peruvian manuscript, this top-secret document contains nine insights for the spiritual advancement of the human race. The protagonist and narrator heads off on a journey to find this document, as they head through the Andes, contending with all manner of different obstacles. Many organizations want to keep its secrets hidden, including the government, as the power behind the manuscript could potentially change everything. Can they find it in time? Where will their journey take them? What is hidden within the pages of the Celestine Prophecy?
The Twelfth Insight: The Hour of Decision
Published initially in 2011, this was first brought out through the Grand Central Publishing label to an already eager audience. Coming out on the 15th of February, it would be the fourth title in the ongoing ‘Celestine Prophecy’ series of novels. Telling another story, it continues the ideas of the previous titles, while also offering some entirely new insights all of its own.
As a follow-up, this perfectly catches what the series is about once more, allowing the story to come alive for a fourth time. With plenty of insights and unique philosophy it works on a number of different level, really speaking to the reader on a direct level. The story itself is also engaging, with an entertaining narrative that works well carrying the overall parable element of the novel.
Many view it as a sign of the apocalypse that the Mayan calendar ends upon 21st of December in 2012, but others see it as something else. With Wil and the narrator Hero once again working together, they must this time find another manuscript that contains the secret to humanity. With dark forces on their tail, they must work against the clock to find what remains in fragments, locating the spiritual revelations that will show them the way. Can they find what they seek in time? Where will their path lead? What will finally happen when they gain the twelfth insight in the hour of decision?
