Ian Tregillis is a well known author in the USA. He was born on 22nd June 1973 in McCloud County Minnesota USA. He attended both his college and graduate school in the University of Minnesota. The university then decided it was time for them to politely ask him to leave since they had seen a lot of him. This was to provoke him to get out there on his own so that he could even get a real job. The university also gave Ian a parting gift of a doctorate in physics as a result of his radio galaxies research. He then moved to New Mexico as soon as he was done with his thesis. To his surprise when he got to New Mexico he landed in the hands of people who were more than willing to hire him regardless of Ian feeling he did not have any useful skills to offer.
Later in 2005, he attended the Clarion Writers Workshop which was held in East Lansing in Michigan. Here he met twelve other people who were aspiring to be writers. They spent six weeks in a somehow creepy, sweltering and almost condemned sorority house. After the Clarion Writers Workshop he was with open arms welcomed to the large community of disproportionately professional fantasy and science fiction writers in New Mexico. He owes his gratitude to Walter Jon Williams for helping him join this community, although he at times feels like just a minor writer he has had the chance to share critiques and work with many New Mexico well known authors like, Melinda Snodgrass, Ty Frank, George R. R. Martin, Daniel Abraham Victor Milan, Sage Walker and S. M. Stirling. Ian currently lives in northern New Mexico where he has the privilege to partner with scientists and writers.
Ian Tregillis is well known for writing books on the following genres alternate history, fantasy, parallel universe urban fantasy, noir, angels, paranormal mystery and robots.
Ian has over the years written so many books that are a must read. His books include the Bitter Seeds series of books. Bitter Seeds is based in Europe where America did not get into Second World War. This book tells an alternate history of world war two. It portrays a world of superpowers and arcane sciences, other mysterious dimensional beings and never ending questions on humanity. Both sides are willing to ensure victory and are willing to sacrifice anything to achieve victory. This is a series of books that will keep you engaged to the very last book of the series.
After the Bitter Seeds comes another intriguing series called The Coldest War. The Coldest War is still as dark as the bitter seeds. The book covers the sadness that prevails after the world has survived the terrible war in bitter seeds and they find themselves in a worse place. Everything seems to be falling apart no matter how much everyone struggles. This may be the inevitable darkness before dawn but no one believes that there may eventually be salvation to save everyone. This is another series of books by Ian Tregillis that will bow your mind away, it is a must purchase and read.
It does not all end with The Coldest War, Ian takes the fun further and releases Necessary Evil. Here he changes the book to take a twentieth century sort of a setting with still a compromisingly dark journey into the deep pits of despair. Necessary Evil has one of the best series conclusions, since it is unpredictable and its black magic thrill sets your mind really thinking hard and your heart inevitably racing.
Something More Than Night is another book by Ian that is a must read on murder mystery. It is a detective story that stars the heavenly choir, fallen angels, and a priest who has a really dirty secret, nightclub involvement, a mysterious female fatale and the powerful Voice of God. Someone takes the bold step of murdering Angel Gabriel and to make it even to make it worse the Jericho trumpet goes missing. This leads heaven to a great crisis. However, the plot then changes drastically after the murder investigations result to something really big. Since this is not just any other murder a group of angels has decided that they must break out of heaven but the only challenge is that they need human assistance for their plan to work. Something More Than Night is a murder mystery story that keeps you glued and engaged to the very end and keeps you wanting to know more.
The mechanical is another of Ian Tregillis work that you must read. It involves a mechanically powered man who is controlled by his human masters. He is a very faithful servant who is made to ultimately fight and is endowed with boundless stamina and so much strength. He is controlled by what his masters want so he is a slave however he is sure that he shall one day be free. This book is more than engaging since all you want to know is how a mechanical man powered by alchemy plans to free itself from the hands of its controllers. This is a must read book for all those who are into mechanical inventions, sentient mechanical creatures programmed in such a way that all they do is fulfill their masters orders. This book is fascinating, the characters regardless of being mechanically made live, breathe and the action involved is simply intriguing.
Ian Tregillis ensures that he keeps his readers engaged in his books by delivering just what the targeted readers expect. He achieves this by always being on the lookout for interesting tidbits that could lead to amazing story ideas. He sometimes gets his ideas even from songs. He ensures that what he writes about something he would not mind reading again and again. He putting himself in the position of his readers ensures that he is able to attract and retain his readers. He is able to deliver just what they anticipate and expect from him.
