Gordon Korman is one of the prominent Canadian-American authors who has written some of the very successful novels in his writing career. Most of his books are written under the young adult and children’s book genres. In all, he has written more than 85 novels in his writing career so far. Author Korman was born on October 23, 1963 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He lived there until the year 1970. He spent most of his growing up days in Thornoll, Ontario, located to the north of Toronto. Korman studied first at the German Mills School and then at the Thornlea Public School located in Thornhill, Ontario. After that, he shifted to the United States in order to join college at the New York University. Author Korman studied the subjects of film and film writing and then obtained his BFA in the year 1985 from the New York University. His credential also included a degree in drama and visual writing and a minor one in the television and the picture. The first book that Korman attempted to write was at the age of 12. When he was in the 7th grade at the German Public School, he had an English teacher named Hamilton, who was also a field and track coach for his class. It was the first time that Hamilton had taken up the role as an English teacher and needed some students to volunteer for writing a novel for the semester. Author Korman was one of the volunteers and the manuscript of the novel went on to become his first book. The book was titled as ‘This Can’t Be Happening at Macdonald Hall’ and became the first book of the successful Macdonald Hall series. At that time, author Korman appointed as the monitor of his class by the Scholastic Book Club. So, when he finished writing the assignment, he mailed it to the Scholastic publishers.
The novel was eventually published by them in the year 1978. At that time, author Korman was just 14 years old. By the time, he completed his schooling from the Thronhill high school, Ontario, he had already written and published a total of 5 books. Altogether, author Korman has sold over 25 million printed copies of his books over the career of three decades. Author Korman says that he has been writing novels for more than 3 quarters of his life. Most of the books that he has written in this time period have been translated into more than 30 foreign languages all over the worldwide. As of today, he lives in his house located on the Long Island, just outside the New York City. Author Korman’s happy family comprises of his lovely wife and his three children. Whenever he is not busy writing novels, author Korman can usually be seen one of his 3 kids for some rehearsal or practice or some or the other game. Apart from that, he likes to make appearances at libraries, bookstores, schools, and a number of other places for promoting his books. Author Korman always likes to keep in touch with his readers so that he can get their valuable feedback about the content of his latest releases. He is frequently active on the social networking sites, where he keeps his fans nd readers posted with the news of his latest works. Author Korman has also developed a personal website, through which his fans can contact him in case of any query. And he always makes sure that he replies to each one of them whenever he gets time.
One of the popular novel series written by author Gordon Korman is known as ‘The 39 Clues’. It consists of 8 books in total which were published between the years 2008 and 2015. One of the initial novels in this series is titled as ‘Cahills vs. Vespers’. This book was released by the Scholastic Press in the year 2011. In the main plot of the book, it is shown that the main characters, Dan Cahill and Amy Cahill, get involved in an adventurous attempt to save the world against a shadowy group called as the Vespers. At the beginning of the story, Dan is depicted as a 13 year old, who has an older sister named Amy Cahill. Initially, both of them used to think that they were a part of one of the most powerful families of the world. The others were trying to search for the source of that power, which lay in the 39 Clues that were hidden somewhere. Amy and Dan thought they no one was hunting for those clues anymore and that the source of their powerful family was safe. However, their thinking that they had won eventually turned out to be wrong. They start getting distress calls from all parts of the globe one after the other. Soon, Dan and Amy realize that their family members were getting kidnapped by the shadowy group, the Vespers, one by one. The Vespers make a bizarre ransom demand to Dan and sister, which they were required to at all costs or else they would start killing the kidnapped members of the Cahill family. Now Amy, and his brother had very few days left with them and didn’t know what the Vespers really wanted or how they should stop them. In the end, it seemed that the Vespers were playing for a win at any cost and if they succeeded in finding the 39 Clues, then would go on to take the world as their next hostage.
One of the other books in The 39 Clues series written by author Gordon Korman was published under the title ‘One False Note’. It was released by the Scholastic Inc publication in the year 2008. At the start of this book, it is shown that the race for finding the 39 Clues related the Cahill family was still on by the rest of the world. And the members of the Cahill family are required to prevent them from finding the clues in order to safeguard the great power of their family. Fourteen year old Amy and her younger brother named Dan Cahill are surprised to find that they are in the lead to carry out this job. The search for the clues takes both of them to Vienna. They seem to have a sheet music of Mozart with a coded message. This coded piece turns out to be the key for them to find the next clue in The 39 Clues. However, Dan and his older sister, Amy Cahill, go on to realize that they are being followed by some of the power-hungry relatives of the Cahill family. Their path appears to be filled so many difficulties that the siblings are not able to see if they are heading towards victory or into a dangerous trap.
