Glen Duncan is a critically acclaimed author from Britain, who is known for writing horror, mystery, fiction, thriller, and fantasy novels. Author Duncan is particularly well known for writing the successful novel series, The Last Werewolf. He is also known to have written a few standalone novels such as I, Lucifer. Some of the other important books written by him include Hope, Love Remains, Weathercock, Death of an Ordinary Man, The Bloodstone Papers, etc. Author Duncan is also famous for writing the mystery series called The Valerie Hart under the pen name of Saul Black. Duncan’s birth year is 1965 and he was born in Bolton, Lancashire. Duncan’s family is Anglo-Eastern. In the year 1994, author Duncan traveled to India along with his father. He visited many exciting places by traveling Amtrak trains. Continuing with the same journey, Duncan arrived in The United States. Later, author Duncan used his traveling experience to write his first book called Hope. This book was released in the year 1997 and achieved a great success in various countries of the world. His other highly successful novel is entitled I, Lucifer. It was published in 2002 and has been selected to be adapted into a Hollywood film. A big production company has acquired the film rights of the book from author Duncan and has also signed popular actors like Vin Diesel, Jude Law, Daniel Craig, Jason, Brescia, and Ewan Mcgregor to play important roles in the forthcoming movie. Author Duncan currently resides in London. He has studied philosophy from the Lancaster University and literature from the Exeter University. Duncan came to London for the first time in 1990. At that time, he was involved in working as a bookseller and continued with this work for a period of 4 years.
The 2002 book written by Duncan, ‘I, Lucifer’, has received soundtrack from Duncan’s old friend named Stephen Coates. Stephen collaborated with a band known as The Real Tuesday Weld for providing the soundtrack. The team Stephen and the band came together again for preparing the soundtrack of another novel of Duncan. As per the views of the critic named William Skidelsky given in The Guardian, author Duncan has a specialty in writing the type of novels that cannot be pigeon holed easily. David Robsob also wrote about Duncan in Telegraph that he has idiosyncratic talent. It is not easy to guess as to which Duncan is going to turn. The premise of author Duncan’s book, I, Lucifer, is that the Gods give Lucifer a chance to live among the mortal for one month in the form of a mortal. This is done so as to make him get back into the good graces of the Gods before it becomes too late for him. This storyline was quite well received by the audiences at all places, which not only helped the book to become successful, but also increased his popularity as a novelist. Author Duncan was selected by both The Supplements of Times Library and Arena as one among the best young authors of Britain. Author Duncan says that when he writes under his original name, he tends to adopt a digressive, ironic, parenthetical, and oblique writing style. He also says that his previous books were not plot driven. While attempting to write a thriller, author Duncan knew that he would have to use a more concrete and economical style, and concentrate on pushing forward the story in a suspenseful and dramatic way. So, he decided to give himself the identity of a new writer and pretended to be a different type of writer. Initially, it was an experiment to see if it helped. This experiment did help him psychologically. However, author Duncan believes that there is a permeable boundary between his individual selves. He says that Saul Black does not have patience with the jokes, essayistic asides, and the literary allusions. But, this is not the case for Duncan. The chase is cut to, but he hopes that it is not at the expense of decent sentences, fresh metaphors, and psychological depth. Author Duncan wishes to have an alter ego for writing different kinds of novels. It gives him a sort of disguise that has always had appeal. Now that Saul Black has become a hit among the readers, author Duncan worries about the potential discovery of the habits of Saul that are even worse than his real self.
The Last Werewolf series written by Glen Duncan is comprised of a total of 3 books, which were released between the years 2011 and 2014. Each of the books in this series features the romance between the main characters, one of whom is shown as a werewolf. An initial book of the series is entitled ‘Talulla Rising’. This book was released by the Knoph publication in 2011. The chief characters introduced in the story of the book include Talulla Demetriou and Jake. Author Duncan has set the story in Alaska. At the start of the book, it is shown that Talulla Demetriou grieves for the violent death of her lover werewolf named Jake. She is left alone with the sublime monstrousness of her own. Being pursued by the WOCOP hunters, Talulla runs for her life and looks for a safe place for giving birth to her child. It is a full moon when she gives birth in a remote lodge in Alaska and is left savaged. However, Talulla feels satisfied with the belief that the worst times are over. But soon, she realizes that the worst has just started. Talulla races against time to save the life of her child as well as her own. She learns that the new leader of WOCOP is a psychotic, blood drinking religious fanatic, and the oldest vampire alive.
Talulla worries for the safety of her infant child. She knows that the new leader is going to come after her and so, she looks to find a way to evade the deadly vampire and go into hiding. The book is full of dark humor and audacious imagination, and has a great depth of sympathy and horror. The next popular book of the series is called as ‘By Blood We Live’. Released in 2014, this book continues to depict the story of Talulla. At the beginning of the novel, it is depicted that Talulla has started living a normal life along with her twin children and the memories of her lover. Except for the periodic transformation into a werewolf for the hunger of human flesh, everything else looks good in her life. But, she keeps getting nightmares about Remshi, the oldest vampire who is determined to kill her and her children. Remshi has his own problems in life. As the novel proceeds further, the two get drawn towards each other. This novel also turned out to be a pulse pounding supernatural thriller and suspense.
