Elizabeth is well known for her book Field Notes From a Catastrophe: Man, Nature, and Climate Change. The book was released for the first time in 2006, having been reprinted since. Elizabeth Kolbert is not only a best-selling author but a journalist. Employed by The New Yorker as one of their staff writers, Kolbert at last began to channel her years researching, creating, editing, and coming up with journalism pieces into full books. One of her best selling books has been The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History, about the modern extinction that she believes there is substantial evidence to back up the idea that we are going through now.

The author would also revisit the subject of extinction working on the 2015 documentary “Racing Extinction” appearing as herself among other featured individuals such as Elon Musk. The documentary was directed by Louie Psihoyos, written by Mark Monroe, and follows largely along with undercover activists that are fighting to try and prevent what they have come to see as a potential sixth mass extinction that has been influenced and also partially created by human beings. Fascinating, timely, and keen with its observations, the documentary features a variety of people in different positions, professions, and fields as they voice their concern over this mass extinction event’s possibility and likelihood.

The author has appeared as herself on television multiple times, from the 2021 television series “In Depth” to “The Ezra Klein Show” to “How to Let Go of the World: and Love All the Things Climate Can’t Change”, a 2016 documentary. She has appeared on Charlie Rose, The Daily Show, and Tavis Smiley.

Elizabeth is married to her husband and they share two children together. The family resides in the picturesque location of Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Under a White Sky: The Nature of the Future is a 2021 book from Elizabeth Kolbert in which she examines the world that people are making. This book contains an interesting look at everything from biologists working to try and preserve the rarest fish in the world which resides in a Mojave pool and nowhere else to researchers from Australia that are working to try and come up with their own coral that might be able to live on a globe that is increasingly warm.

There are also physicists that are thinking about things they can do to try and cool the Earth, such as putting up small diamonds into the earth’s stratosphere to cool it and engineers that are in Iceland taking carbon emissions and turning them into stone.
