E.J. Copperman is the pen name for Jeff Cohen. He has been a writer and freelance reporter since 1985. He has stated that the fun in writing is writing from the head, as he does, rather than using notes and outlines which are pretty limiting and may not give the author the freedom to explore the realm of writing. Quite a number of his novels have been categorized as humorous. He says that a writer who wants to write humor must be funny in the first place. He further warns that trying to act funny when you are not can turn to be a painfull experience, and this is not an exception when it comes to writing.
E.J. Copperman’s life and preferences have somehow have had an influence in his works. For example, he yearns to do something in order to help parents and educators to attend to children that have special needs. Himself, he has a child with special needs and knows first-hand the pain of taking such a child through public or private school. He says that public schools have a dedicated staff who try to help the children in the best way that they can.
In his works, he has no interest in the mechanics of the plot. On the contrary, he is of much concern with the characters. He does not write a whole novel based on only one thing, after all, life is characterized by different things at any given time. He has a lot of focus on the family and its (mis) adventures. For example, he explores the dynamics that face the perception that surround what a normal American family is and the challenges that can come with the attempts to fit in that definition. His suspects are unlimited and are unique in their character traits.
Other characteristics of Copperman’s works include a combination of humor and mystery, and the supernatural. The author loves it when readers assume that he is a woman. In addition to that, he has done a master piece of work in breathing in life to the dead in a convincing way.
His hobbies and interests are playing the guitar, playing baseball, and teaching about screen-writing.
Night of the Living Deed (2010)
Alison Kerby is a newly divorced woman who wants a second chance for her and her daughter. She goes back to her home town in Jersey. She buys a house and plans to renovate it into a guest house. Her source of money is a sexual harassment lawsuit and she plans to do something memorable with that money. Again, she intends to use the guesthouse as a source of a stable income and also a way of keeping herself busy.
Surprises start the day that she is painfully hit with a bucket. It dawns on her that the house she is living in is a haunted house. And the guests give her the challenging task of finding out about their death, more so about who killed them and the details therein. It is worth noting that by the time of the deaths, the deaths were not ruled out as a case of murder. Alison is distracted. She does not have much time, and the guesthouse plans follow a tight deadline. Again, the renovation is mostly a Do It Yourself (DIY), and the presence of the ghosts makes things more unpredictable for him.
Alison also discovers something else- that there is a hidden artifact in the guesthouse. She also learns to effectively communicate with the ghosts to an extent that she learns a lot from them, more so their past. Its also through this that she learns about the history of her house.
Though the presence of the ghosts lurks in the dark, the book is not only fun but also humorous. The reason why the ghosts continue to live in her house is that they were killed in there. The book is witty and the reader cannot help but laugh aloud. Copperman is able to do this without showing any strain.
This is a fascinating story of a divorced but strong mother, a sassy daughter, a clingy grandmother, and wacky ghosts. It is a story of two men who are dead- but still living in Alison’s house. The book is a panorama craze that with the reader turning the pages without getting bored an inch.
Ghost in the Wind (2015)
Quite a number of people have a hero or heroine whom they admire and dream of meeting should they be given a chance. What about if one meets such a personality when he or she is dead? In the novel Ghost in the Wind, Alison Kerby is preparing for a movie night with family and friends. However, to her amazement, floating above her is Vance Mc Tiernan, her music idol. The music star needs urgent from Alison and another ghost, Paul Harrison.
The kind of help that Vance needs concerns his daughter. The daughter died and the cause of death was ruled out as drug over-dose. However, Vance would buy none of that. He strongly believes that the she was murdered and it was no way a drug overdose as previously alleged.
Alison finds no problem whatsoever in helping Vance. However, Paul is suspicious and cannot trust the motive of Vance. Everything would change when the body of the alleged killer is mysteriously found in the movie room. The book explores the relationship between the living and the dead, and the chilling impact that ghosts can have on a human being.
The book has an outstanding cast of well detailed characters, a detailed plot, and sentimental unions. The book (and in deed the whole series) brings laughter and excitement to the reader. The reader gets a chance to see the characters grow and evolve in emotions, behavior, and personality. Overall, the book is entertaining and engaging and makes the reader look forward to the next book.

I am shocked. After much time and money, I find that I am all caught up. Having read all of the Asperger’s Mysteries through the Double Feature Mysteries (I have to admit these first two were my favorite series), and having just finished Bones Behind the Wheel, there are no more unread books of yours available. The Fran and Ken Stien books I found very interesting due to the unique premise.
The above being said, now I have to sit and wait for your next book to come out. I know your most recent book just came out this year, but Solitaire can only keep me occupied for so long. Please keep up the good work!
Thank you for the kind words! I’m glad you’re enjoying the books!
The Alison Kirby series has been at the top of my Christmas list for the last 5 years! I love everything about them: the plots, characters and especially the ghosts! Thanks for giving me hours of reading pleasure!
