Diana Xarissa Dunn is a crime, mystery, and thriller author who loves to call herself a daughter, sister, wife, mother, and author with the order changing depending on what day of the week it is. Diana was brought up in the outskirts of Eri Pennsylvania but she would later relocate to Washington DC. A few years later, she met the English man that would later become her husband. The man swept her off her feet and whisked her away to England where she lived for more than a decade. During their stay on the Isle of Man, Diana got two children and went back to school to get her masters in Manx Studies. In 2008, the family moved back to the United States as Diana needed to give her children the American experience and lifestyle as well. They moved to Buffalo in Western New York, from where Diana writes her novels, volunteers at the local school, and looks after her children. While she now lives in New York, she lived so long in the Isle of Man that she still sets her novels in that locale. Some of her novels such as “The Bennett Case” and “The Appleton Case” are set in Derbyshire the first town she lived in as a newlywed in the north of England. As Diana X, she also writes thrillers/mysteries set in a future world. As D.X. Dunn, she also writes middle-grade children’s books.
Xarissa’s first novel was a romance novel titled “Island Escape” that she published in 2013. It was the first of the “Isle of Man Romance” series of novels that culminated with “Island Christmas” the fourth in the series that she published in 2015. Diana also published “Aunt Bessie Assumes” her first cozy mystery in 2014. The novel just like her first series is set on the Isle of Man and spawned what was to be the most successful of all her series. Ever since she published the debut novel, she became prolific that by 2020 she had 25 titles in the series. Diana is also the author of the “Markham Sisters Cozy Mystery” series of novellas. Unlike her other works, these novels are set in a Derbyshire village named Doveby Dale. However, the author has a different take on the cozy as the novels in the series do not have a murder despite being mysteries. Xarissa’s “Isle of Man Ghostly Cozy series is a paranormal series that has the protagonists as an American woman who lives with the dead ghost of her aunt in an apartment she inherited. She also writes romance series set in a fictional town in New York State and another set on the Isle of Man.
“Island of Escape” the first novel of the “Isle of Man Romance” series is a thrilling debut to the series. Katie Kincaid’s wedding was canceled at the last minute leaving her devastated. She now has a chance to do research, which means spending three months on the Isle of Man. She thinks it will be a fun adventure that is too good to pass up and hence she is looking forward to it. It will be a great way to escape the gossip and sympathetic looks she has been getting from her friends. By going abroad, she also gets a chance to enjoy her singlehood once again after ending what had been a very long relationship. Finlo Quayle owns the only charter airline on the Island. Katie’s research is funded by the sexy and intelligent man that owns and runs the research institute. Katie is attracted to the man but given the experiences she had from her past relationships, she has cause to exercise caution. She is determined not to ever let anyone make romantic decisions for her ever again.
Diana Xarissa’s “Island Inheritance” is the story of Carly Munroe, a woman who is having the best time of her life. She has a boyfriend who makes her happy, a great job teaching first graders, and a small house she loves. She is expecting her boyfriend to propose at any time and in the meantime has reserved the local chapel for the Christmas Eve festivities. But everything changes when her mother asks that she travel to the Isle of Man where a matter of an unexpected inheritance has to be taken care of. Out of the blue, her long-term boyfriend drops a bombshell when he says that he wants them to start seeing other people. With the future looking bleak, she thinks that maybe she should not spend the rest of her life in the small town she knows as home. Doncan Quayle a handsome lawyer brings another layer of complication as he is a sophisticated and charming man that does everything to make her happy. Could he be the man for her or does he have ulterior motives? She had fallen in love with the Isle of Man which is bad enough but she is now also falling for the ancient cottage that belongs to her grandmother. But the worst thing is falling for the handsome lawyer. Will she have a happy ending or will she be resigned to a lonely fate just like the owner of the cottage she has fallen in love with?
Diana Xarissa’s “Island Heritage” is the story of Darcy Robinson and Lisa Mylchreest. The two have been best friends since they were in primary school where they had sworn off boys as they thought them gross and boring. Two decades later, Darcy is a gorgeous redhead with a traffic-stopping figure and a penchant for attracting non-committal men. Meanwhile, Lisa is happy with being single as she prefers to build a career over a romantic relationship. Darcy finally gets to meet a man she believes is ready to commit and her friend could not have been happier for her. Mark Blake is an attractive and smart man with stunning blue eyes and dark hair who works for the Manx National Heritage. With a friend’s wedding fast approaching, Darcy is determined to find a perfect march for Lisa. Lisa does not want to tell her friend to stop as she cares for her and hence endures several miserable blind dates that Darcy sets up. But then she is given the assignment to install a new computer system at the Manx National Heritage building. It is not long before she is enjoying Mark’s company as they visit heritage sites across the island and get to know each other better. Lisa is horrified to discover that she is falling for the man that is her best friend’s boyfriend but she cannot stop herself.

I love both the Aunt Bessie series and the and the cosy mystery series. I have finished Aunt Bessie and will be starting the the cold case series soon. Wish I had the funds to take a trip to The Isle of Mann and Scotland as I really like mysteries that take place in Scotland. I would like to visit some of the places mentioned and all of these books.
I wish there were more Aunt Bessie and Markham sisters books Love them all 😊😊
