December 2024: Books I Read Last Month
Book links take you to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate I earn money from qualifying purchases.Written by GraemeNovember was a bit of a tricky reading month for me in terms of quantity as:
– The first week of the month I spent in Texas
– the last week of the month my mum and 5 year old nephew visited from Scotland
– I read a Stephen King novel which was massive
Here is what I read in November:
11/22/63 by Stephen King: Absolutely superb book about someone who travels back in time to stop the assassination of JFK. Might be my book of the year – it’s up there anyway. Highly, highly recommended. And hey – it even has a decent ending! Started watching the TV show now and am about half-way through.
A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman: This was part of my adaptation book club, so we read the book separately then watched the movie together. Thoroughly enjoyed this one, and it’s a solid read. Very emotional and a great story, as well as great characters. The Tom Hanks movie was lacking somewhat but it had some great casting which was very important.
The Midnight Library by Matt Haig: I listened to this one. It was okay I guess – not one I’d go out and recommend. Lots of awkward conversations to figure out what universe she was in etc. I feel like people who go on about this book have never read anything remotely similar. It just felt shallow overall. I’d read something else by Matt for sure, but this didn’t live up to the hype.
The Perfect Son by Freida McFadden: This was an early Freida McFadden book and it showed. It kept me hooked throughout, but it was lacking that “oomph” with the twist and it really wasn’t a surprise twist at all. Not one I’d really recommend.
I’ve started reading “The Marriage Act” by John Marrs, part of The One Universe. I’m about 30% of the way through so far. It’s a bit hard to keep track of the characters.
