About Debbie Macomber:
Debbie Macomber is one of the best selling authors in America who has written more than 150 romance novels as well as contemporary women’s fiction. With her success as an author, she was able to sell more than 170 millions of copies of her book since she started writing in 1988. To date, Debbie Macomber has won many awards which include the Quill Award for romance in 2005 and the lifetime achievement award by the Romance Writers of America.
What makes her one of America’s most celebrated romance authors is her ability to bring into life compelling relationships in the family, community and friendship that embraces all of her readers with both hope and love. However, before she got all of her fame and fortune, Debbie Macomber had a simple beginning.
The Early Beginnings Of Debbie Macomber
Debbie Macomber is born in October 22, 1948 in the city of Yakima in Washington. When she was young, she had the dream to write stories while in still in grade school. However, she kept her dream to herself because she was afraid of being ridiculed by her peers.
While Debbie Macomber was growing up, she had a very uneventful childhood partly because she was diagnosed to be dyslexic. This learning disorder made it more difficult for her to learn how to read. When she was in first grade, she was put into the slow reader group and this continued until she reached the fifth grade when she finally managed to catch up with others. She was able to finish high school but with some difficulty.
During her growing up years, she was able to develop a good circle of friends albeit few who helped her cope up with her situation which then later on served as her inspiration on her later stories about the power of strong friendship.
The Start Of Her Publishing Career
Debbie Macomber is married to husband Wayne and they had four children. During her early years as a stay-at-home mom, Debbie developed her first manuscript as she typed it in a rented typewriter. She continued to write for five years and she met a lot of rejections along the way.
Alongside, she also worked as a freelance writer for a magazine to help boost the family income. With some of the money she saved from writing her articles, she was able to save enough to attend a romance writer’s conference where one of her manuscripts – Heartsong – was selected by an editor from Harlequin Enterprises Ltd. to be critiqued.
Unfortunately, she met another rejection from the editor and was even advised to throw her manuscript away. Determined, Debbie Macomber scraped $10 and submitted the same manuscript to Silhouette Books – Harlequin’s rival – which the company bought. This was the beginning of her good publishing career.
Notable Novels Written By Debbie Macomber
Debbie Macomber has written a lot of novels since her debut in the early 1980s. She was able to sell more than 170,000 millions of all her books worldwide. What makes her books great is that they focus on delivering important message on the story. Moreover, all of her heroines are optimistic thus giving readers the feeling of hope and happiness by the time they finish reading the book. Below are some of her notable works.
Starlight
The first book that she was able to officially publish in Silhouette Books, Starlight is a classic romantic novel of about the immeasurable capacity of love. The characters of the book Karen McAlister and Rand Prescott both found love in a small Christmas party only to find out that both of their situations – Karen’s contentment from being single and Rand’s handicap – are trying to pull them apart. With her craftsmanship to write compelling stories, she was able to give Starlight the happy ending it deserves.
Thursdays At Eight
Debbie Macomber has written mostly romantic novels since the early 1980’s but during 2002, she realized that she was having a difficult time identifying with her young heroines thus she started focusing more her stories on friendship. The book Thursdays at Eight served as her departure from her usual romance novels into the world of contemporary women’s fiction. The story centers around four women who meet every Thursday at 8:00am to talk about their lives during breakfast.
Clare, Elizabeth, Karen and Julia all meet together to talk about the many issues about womanhood and about life in general. Thursdays at Eight relates to friendship and the choices that we make in our lives.
Cedar Cove Series
Perhaps one of Debbie Macomber’s most celebrated books is Cedar Cove which has been turned into a TV series. The Cedar Cove Series contains 12 books and was written from 2001 to 2011.
The different stories are set in the quiet town of Cedar Cove in Washington depicting the joys, sorrows and revelations from the many fictional residents from Cedar Cove. This successful book turned into TV series is currently airing in Hallmark TV which has kept a lot of people all over America rooting for it.
This Matter Of Marriage
Another Debbie Macomber book that became a made for TV movie was This Matter of Marriage. The book turned into movie is all about the diary of Hallie McCarthy. Turning into the dreaded age of 30 and with no prospect of marriage yet, Hallie is set to find her Knight in Shining Armor until she met her neighbor Steve Marris who, unfortunately, is busy trying to win back his ex-wife. This particular movie became one of the most popular movies created by Hallmark in 1998.
Debbie Macomber Today
Today, Debbie Macomber is not only active in writing books. At the age of 64, she is a volunteer mentor for young writers and she is also active in fundraising for the shelters for battered women in the USA. During her spare time, she and her husband enjoy traveling all over the world as well as try new things for the benefit of developing the characters of her novels.
She also loved to knit and travel back and forth in their homes in Florida and Port Orchard in Washington which also served as the location of one of her books turned into TV series – Cedar Cove.

Just love all of Debbie Macomber’s books. Read all of the Blossom Street Books and now just finished all of the Cedar Cove books. Have now printed out all 16 pages of her listed books and will decide which I will start first. Can’t put her books down, when library doesn’t have them, I buy them. I am addicted!!!
Hello Debbie! I am a reader of many authors but when I find I need more happiness in my heart, I always choose to read yours! Please keep them coming!
I, too, like other authors, but always ‘return’ to Debbie Macomber for “feel good” stories!
I have been reading Debbie Macomber books since her first. In fact, I own most of them, either hard back, paper back, ebook, or a combination of the three. I can only say, Debbie, I am a month and a half younger than you. I know what this age can do to you. But PLEASE, PLEASE, keep writing!! Your books and stories are the BEST available. You kept my mother entertained from your beginning books until she left us in 2006. She was bedfast and you kept her mind busy the last couple of years of her life.
I have a lot of books that are not listed. Can you tell where they belong?

I haven’t checked all of them but I checked a few of them and all of them are omnibus books with multiple books from the above books listed. We don’t list omnibus books. It won’t surprise me of all of them are like that. So it would be a case of seeing what books are in each omnibus, and then checking the list. I will look through them to see if any are missing but the ones I checked from that were all omnibus.
The love the first set l ever read of hers the navy set.read all of them in about a week by
I just read Cottage By The Sea in 2 days. Loved the book. Starting A Walk Along The Beach. Keep the books coming.
Just finished your “Blossom Street” series, loved them, hated to see them end
I love Debbie’s books. I have been reading them for years. In what order are the books Married in Seattle. Seems there might be 3 books but not sure of the order. Thank you.
Hi Carol,
Married in Seattle is just an omnibus book that Debbie released. The two books within it are First Comes Marriage and Wanted: Perfect Partner.
I’m trying to find the title to the 2nd book in a series
The 1st is “First Comes Love”
The 3rd is “First Comes Marriage”
But I can’t find the 2nd book
The book First Comes Marriage by Debbie is part of a multi-author series. The book First Comes Love is the first book in the From This Day Forward series listed above with the alternate title of Groom Wanted.
Would you tell me the title of a debbie macomber book that has a divorced woman wth two girls and a divorced man with two sons who fall in love and desire to be married who learn their exes are married to each other
an outstanding book about forgiveness.
Was that It’s Better This Way?
This was the first set of Debbie’s books I read and, by far, my favorite. I absolutely loved them. They are what made me a fan.
I read a mystery by debbie macomber the that took place in Mexico. I don’t see it on her list of books.I would like to get it but can’t remember the name. It said on the jacket that it was the only mystery she wrote. Can you help me?
The only one I can think of that takes place in Mexico is The Sooner the Better/Moon Over Water, which is listed above and is third in the Deliverance Company series.
Just looked up “the list” to see what new books I must read!!
Debbie, we share our birthdays (though 4 years apart).
The sweet thing is that I have a granddaughter who shares my birthday just as YOU do🤩. I am SO happy for your success!
I have read many of Debbie’s books . I just finished Silver Linings and wondered is there a follow up to this book that tells us about Mark? Thank you for the great books I try to keep a list in my purse so i know which ones i haven’t read yet.
Hi Mary – as per the list above, Sweet Tomorrows is after Silver Linings.
My favorite books are the “Angel” books with Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy. I pull them out and read them at Christmas. I get a smile on my face when I read about all of the trouble these 3 angels can find to get into. If you haven’t read them then you don’t know what you are missing. One is “The Season of Angels”, the second is “Trouble with Angels”, and “Shirley Goodness and Mercy”. Looking at the list, I see there are more! I guess I better start looking for them.
The Shirley, Goodness and mercy book was the first one I read. Hooked from that point forward.
Love all the books I’ve read. Trying to locate the ones I don’t have.
I have always been an avid reader and I have been addicted to Debbie’s books for several years. My GOAL before my end…is to read every one of her wonderful books!! Thank You So So much Debbie!!!!
I have read every book Debbie has written. I started very young reading them. I really have enjoyed her books through the years. I only hate that she started doing shorter stories and sharing them with a twofer of someone else’s story.
I just stayed up all night reading It’s Better This Way. It was so familiar to my life. My parents are both deceased (2002 and 2010) and this story reminded me of all of their sayings that are still so fresh in my mind. Don’t stop writing. I relish finding out about your newest book so I can get it and enjoy it.
Love your books. Keep them comming.
Their Perfect Match is missing. Not sure if it belongs to a series.
Hi Romi – that one is just a 2 in 1 collection/omnibus of two books already listed here. We don’t list omnibus books just the individual books. Thanks for mentioning though it’s appreciated 🙂
Just done reading COTTAGE by the SEA . Find it hard to put the book down therefore I was done in 3 days. The story is as beautiful as the Title and the cover. . Annie’s forgiving , bleeding heart was healed by Keaton who she almost lost…….. I Enjoyed reading this novel more than the others cuz of the LARGE PRINTS Thank you Random House & Debbie
Love this author….keeps your attention, with caring, happiness, sadness, and romance but in a very “clean” way!!! Something the whole family can listen too Just listened to the series “Rose Harbor Inn” and loved everyone one of them!!!!!!
I thought I saw a book titled 21st Wish that was part of the Blossom Street Series. Am I right or wrong?
I have to find the book first, but will let you know. I love Debbie’s writing style. It really brings you into the story.
Ok, I finally got the book which is called The Knitting Diaries. It contains 3 stories by 3 different authors one of which is Debbie Macomber. It is a short story or novelette titled The Twenty-First Wish. It is a continuation of the Twenty Wishes book and a very lovely story.
Yes Indeed you are Right but its Twenty Wishes….. the characters of the book started a list of things the want to do But haven’t done it
I very much enjoy reading the Midnight sons series about Alaska. Can you write another story about the Town and people..
I love the Midnight Sons series
Need to have more books in the Blossom Street series. I loved that series.
Is there anymore Blossom Street book after the Summer in Blossom street ?
I love Debbie Macomber books and was so glad to find this website with all her books listed. I have lots of her books and this list will let me see which ones I don’t have! One happy lady!!!:)
What is the series that Debbie wrote after Rose Harbor???
I think they are called new beginnings, it is mentioned at the front of “if not for you ” says that it is no:3 in the series wondered if “a girl’s guide to moving on” is part of said series, looking though the stand alone titles, “last one home” could also be part of new beginnings
” Last One Home ” was about an abusive relationship and how the women got out with dignity. “they all made it through the rain” yes !!!! it sure could be part of New beginnings !
LOVE LOVE LOVE Debbie Macomber books! Some of my favorites are the Mrs. Miracle ones! She just pulls you in and makes you want to keep going with the stories even after they end! Loved reading about how she got started and her struggles of becoming the great author that she is today!
Anyone know the name of the book by Debbie where three college classmates are attending a class reunion, meet at the fountain & share their stories & memories? I read it and enjoyed it very much but just can’t bring the title to mind.
Was it three brides no grroom
Yes it was – thanks!!
I love reading Debbie Macomber’s books. I think her books are great to read.
I am reading one of her books right now. the Manning Brides. Book #2
I love to read Debbie Macomber’s books. It’s good that some of her books are about more mature people. So many are geared for the 20’s and there a lot of us older ones who like to relate to our age groups. Thanks Debbie, keep ’em coming.
