The ‘Dark’ series and it’s prolific stars , The Carpathians, have been taking the world by storm ever since 1999, with the advent of the first novel of this unique series – Dark Prince. Composed of twenty eight novels in totality, the dark series follows the lives and the adventures of the Carpathian people, a powerful ancient race of people with special supernatural abilities. The Carpathians are blessed with a variety of different supernatural powers, the most interesting and fascinating of which are their ability to shape-shift and extend the duration of their lives. Living for up to a thousand years, the Carpathians live among humans. Although they feed on human blood they do not kill their pray, and for are undiscovered and unnoticed by them. But despite the wonderful powers of their supernatural gifts, these mystical creatures are faced with an uncontrollable nemesis, their inability to reproduce.
Hundreds of years see the birth of only a handful of children in the Carpathian race, and all males, and all who suffered the fate of the unfavorable hand of death within the first year of their lives. It has been over five hundred years since a girl child or ‘life mate’ was born. Without the presence of any females or life mates, the Carpathian men loose their ability to feel emotions or see colors, and the only semblance of emotions left within them takes the form of evil thrill, the thrill that comes from killing. Once a Carpathian crosses the line of cold blooded murder, his soul is lost and he transforms into one of legend’s most deeply condemned monsters, a Vampire. Also known as the ‘undead’ these horrific creatures are responsible for the blood of hundreds of innocent humans, and are well known for their rampages and killing sprees. Uncontrollable, the horrendous vampires are a disgrace to the Carpathians and their beliefs, but with no females left they are forced to choose from a lesser of two evils – the choices being either to turn, or intentionally give up their life.
Their only saviors are life mates, few and far to find, who can rescue their souls and restore their ability to feel emotions. And so balance is restored in the universe, and their scintillating powers are nullified with their tragic dependence on love to save their souls. Combining romance and the thrill of the paranormal, the Dark series takes it’s readers on a magical journey, visiting the various milestones and travesties in the lives of the infamous Carpathians, telling the story of their turmoils and conundrums in the never-ending battle within themselves against the urges of evil, in the hope of finding life partners and preventing the extinction of their race. Their journey to find life mates and procreate begins with the courageous Mikhail, who is the prince of the Carpathians. Mikhail finds love in the arms of a psychic woman named Raven, who replenishes his soul and restores the color to his life. Although he knows she is the only one for him, his true love, his other half, history has provided him with too much evidence to enjoy his love free of worry and inhibition. Human women who have been used in the past for the reproduction of the Carpathian race have been known to have succumbed to insanity, feeding on their offspring who as a result have had to be killed. However, Mikhail is determined to live as a human beside his love, and die peacefully by her side when the fate of mortality strikes her. Mikhail refuses to convert Raven, wanting to preserve her purity, until that fateful day when she is attacked by fanatics and he is left with no choice.
Miraculously, she survives, bringing a renewed sense of faith to Mikhail and the Carpathian people. Her survival breeds the hope within the Carpathians that if one human woman could survive and serve as a life partner capable of reproducing and raising healthy children, then there ought to be others, thus indicating that maybe their race isn’t doomed to extinction after all. Years later, Mikhail’s younger brother Jacques is tortured and buried alive by the same group of fanatical vampire – hunting humans who attacked Raven, and is rescued by a witty medical researcher who is the unknowing daughter of a Carpathian man. Ignorant to the unique quality of her blood line and genetics, the beautiful researcher named Shea believes she has a rare blood disorder, and her search for a cure for this disorder leads her to Jacques, who explains to her the mystery of her body, and speaks of possibilities far beyond the reach of human imagination. When the Carpathians find Jacques after years of searching, they are introduced to Shea, who they then learn is half – human and half – Carpathian, a situation that was considered impossible before. The only reasonable explanation for this was that Raven, the human psychic, was capable of reproducing Carpathian women. And so the tale of the lives and discoveries of the Carpathian people continues over numerous sequels.
The books generously describe and tell the story of the intertwined lives of the humans and Carpathians , bound together only by love, and the strife to find one’s soul mate. Each book describes the fairytale of a different couple, man and woman who fall in love despite all the odds, and their strife to find a way to coexist and live and love. On the deepest conceivable level, the series tells us of the power of love, and ability of love to conquer all. Thrown into an impossible situation with an uncertain outcome, love forces and urges the Carpathians to overcome all difficulties and repress their darker side in the lieu of love and a better life. The enchanting tales of the Carpathians will fascinate and penetrate the interests of hopeless romantics and thrill seekers alike, and tickle our taste for the unknown. A thrilling and mesmerizing marriage of romance and the supernatural, the Dark series pushes the boundaries of our imagination and teaches us of the power of true love.
