D.V. Berkom is an American author of fiction. Most of the books that she write could be classified as action thriller novels. She grew up in the Midwest, although moved to Mexico after graduating college to go and live on a sailboat for a few years.

She is a USA Today bestselling author and enjoys creating strong women characters that are resilient and are able to stand up for themselves. This may or may not come from a lifelong affection for reading all sorts of novels from action thrillers to mysteries and spy novels. Part of how she writes her female characters now stems from wanting to find the female version of the protagonist inside these stories.

D.V. Berkom received her Bachelor’s degree in political science. After coming back from several adventures in Mexico years later, she tried her hand at writing. Once she was able to write her first book, she was hooked on it. The book that made her a published author officially was titled Bad Spirits. It was the debut book in the Kate Jones thriller series of fiction and came out in 2010.

The novel was first published as an online serial in 2010. The series was an adventure thriller and became very popular on Nook and Kindle. The thriller gained fans and she followed the first book up with Dead of Winter and then the third book, Death Rites. There would still be a few more in the series as Touring for Death came out and the Leine Basso series was started in 2012 with the publication of Serial Date.

D.V. Berkom currently resides with her husband in the Pacific Northwest. She likes to think of interesting stories and is constantly having several imaginary characters in her head. She is the author of the Kate Jones series and the Leine Basso thriller series of fictional novels.

When it comes to being on the run, this girl is on her own.

It’s not like she didn’t know that, but can Kate really find her way out of the darkness she finds herself in? And can she manage to evade Salazar for a long time, or is he really going to find her the way that he intends to? Nothing is going to stop him from getting what he wants. Dead of Winter is the second novel in the Kate Jones series. She’s a woman who is hiding out in Alaska in a small town and on the run from her past. She was a sole witness to a murder that was supposed to be done execution-style without anyone laying their eyes on it.

Kate thinks that the killers may be men that answer to an old familiar face– Salazar. She is scared and doesn’t want them to find her, so she goes to the local law enforcement to report the crime in the hopes that she will be able to just get out of time while the law tangles them up. But little does she think that she will be assigned an officer to keep watch over her.

She ends up with Sam, who is the officer that is going to be watching over her. The mysterious officer clearly has a path and something happened back then. As the search for the killers gets more and more complex, will Kate find that her attraction to the officer that’s assigned to watch over her is far too distracting to be considered taking any further?

Kate knows that she has an attraction to Sam, and with the killers on the loose out there, she couldn’t feel more safe. But it could be a huge complication as Kate figures out that her biggest shot of staying alive is to get out of Alaska so that she can continue to stay ahead of Salazar and his killers.

If she can stay ahead of them long enough, she just might be able to survive this whole thing. Can Kate keep away from these killers, or will she ultimately fall prey to them as they ultimately track her down and take their revenge?
