The “Colby Agency” is a series of romantic suspense books authored by popular American romantic suspense author Debra Webb. The series is about a private investigations agency in Chicago Illinois led by one Victoria Colby. The still ongoing series that has over fifty titles debuted with the 2000 published “Safe by His Side” which was so popular that Debra started publishing several novels a year. Webb is a USA Today bestselling writer with more that 100 titles to her name in the “Colby Agency”, “Shades of Death”, and “Bone” series. Over the years she has won multiple awards including the Reviewers Choice Award, distinguished Centennial Award, and the Career Achievement Award from the Romantic Times. After more than 100 novels to her name she stands tall among the likes of Carole Mortimer and Nora Roberts. Having sold more than four million copies of her novels in multiple countries and languages, Debra has asserted that writing comes naturally to her having started early in childhood when her mother got her an old typewriter from a yard sale. By the time she was nine, she had written her first story and four years later had her first romance story. Nonetheless, she never pursued her love for writing until she spent five years with NASA and three years with the US Army in Iron Curtain Berlin that she realized that her passion lay in writing fiction. While she initially wrote stories in all manner of genres, she eventually gravitated towards romance and suspense as this is where her novels were most popular.
Debra Webb was raised in Scottboro, Alabama where she was taught the value of hard work by her parents that also emphasized that she could be anything she wanted to be if she was willing to work hard to achieve it. She had always loved stories from the time she was little, and by the time she was nine she began to type them on her old typewriter. After her marriage she continued making up her stories but found herself too busy to write anything worthwhile. She spent a few years doing odd jobs including working at fast food restaurants, factories, and as a vacuum cleaner salesman. After they got their first child her husband got into the military while she went back to school. Armed with a bachelors in Business Administration, she became secretary to the General commanding Berlin, where she worked for five years. The family relocated back to the US in 1985 and Webb got a job at NASA as executive secretary. After decade of uninspiring work, Webb decided to try her hand at writing fiction again and spent three years researching the romance market. By 1998, she sold her comedic romance to Kensington books and a romantic intrigue to Harlequin’s six weeks later. The novel that she sold to Harlequins was the start of a long series of novels that became the Colby Agency that now has more than fifty titles in print. Since 2007, she has been writing “The Equalizers” a spin off of the “Colby Agency” series that has Jim Colby son to Victoria Colby as the lead.
The “Colby Agency” series is all about the Colby Agency, a premier private investigations firm led by Victoria Colby and her expert team of private investigators. The Colby Agency works from the fourth floor of an old building a few blocks from the Magnificent Mile of the old city of Chicago. With a reputation built over more than twenty years, there is no one that does private investigations better than Colby. Victoria Colby Camp has been responsible for the growth and excellence of the firm through much of its two decade history and has managed to keep many members of the agency including the likes of senior investigators Simon Ruhl and Ian Michaels, her son Jim, and her husband Lucas. They solve all manner of cases ranging from serial killers to missing persons and take in clients from all across the United States. The members of the agency see themselves more as a family and provide support to each other in their professional lives as well as the private sphere. Starting in 2000, Webb never knew that her novel would become so popular and be the cultural phenomenon that they have certainly become. Over fifty novels later and the series is still going strong with several titles released every year to the delight of fans.
