With his ever engaging characters as well, many readers find that his various protagonists are easy to identify with too.

Early and Personal Life

Born in 1968 in the area of Fort Worth, Texas, in the United States, the author Cody McFadyen was to become well known as a superior writer of thriller novels, with his gift for suspense and keeping readers on the edge-of-their-seats through his various stories. It was the written word that he always had a strong passion for and, writing from an early age, he always came back to literature as his primary love. Taking in stories from his accumulation of experience over the course of his life, he would then proceed to build this career in the following years to come.

Finishing high-school he took to travelling and visiting a number of different countries, all the while taking it all in, as he honed and refined his voice that was to form the basis and narration of his novels in the years to come. This was also made possible through his work in a number of different industries as well as, whilst he may have always wanted to be a writer, he undertook a variety of jobs in the intervening years. Finally settling into writing though he was to find his true calling as he became the global phenomena that people currently know him as today.

During his time working in other positions, he spent some time as a drugs counselor, setting up a number of self-help groups, as he also dealt with people on a one-to-one basis, gaining an insight that would allow him to develop his characters even further. Getting into website-design as well, he was able to create a portfolio of work that would lead to him becoming the writer he currently is today. During this time though he manage to help a great many people who were struggling with the pressures of addiction, giving them the help they needed to overcome their issues.

With many of his novels primarily being published in Germany, he’s got an ability to transcend borders with his work. Living in South Carolina he has one daughter, as he continues to write, bringing out his novels for an ever eager audience. This doesn’t appear to be stopping anytime soon, as his writing career grows from strength-to-strength with more and more discovering his work everyday.

Writing Career

Bringing out his first book in 2006, Cody McFadyen arrived on the scene with the first in the Smoky Barrett series; ‘Shadow Man’. Running for over five novels so far and counting, they have been well received by his ever growing audience. Largely popular in Germany where they were initially released, he has gradually been branching out with English translations of the novels.

Finding his audience as the series progresses, his readership is expected to grow in the following years to come. With both critics and the general public flocking to his work in equal measure, more translations are also expected shortly. Gaining the commercial success that most writers dream of, he has a number of books still to be released, as his Smoky Barret franchise is expected to continue for some time yet.

The Darker Side

Initially published on the 30th of September, 2008, through the Bantam publishing label, this was to be the third in the Smoky Barret series of novels. Continuing on directly from the last book it follows the case files of FBI Smoky Barret, an agent who was previously badly scarred by a serial killer. Set in Los Angeles, California, it really manages to get a feel for the city, as it once again captures the style and tone of the first two novels.

This time Smoky Barret is on the case of a serial killer that seems particularly horrific, leaving behind them a trail of death and destruction. Taking the life of someone on a commercial air-flight, this killer seems extremely brash, having a deep dark secret on his victim. Now it is up to Smoky to stop him, as she must assemble a team of her very best to take him down, in the face of what might be her greatest challenge to date. Who could commit such a murder so brazenly? Will they be able to prevent the killer from striking again? What secrets are held on the darker side?

Abandoned

This was to again follow on directly from the previous novel, with it being the fourth installment in the Smoky Barret franchise. First published in 2009 on the 27th of October, it was also brought out through the Bantam publishing label just as before. Also managing to recreate the atmosphere and ambiance of the past novels, it gives the audience what they’ve now come to expect from the series, whilst also providing some surprising twists and turns along the way.

Looking to attend her colleague’s wedding, Smoky Barret quickly finds the ceremony isn’t going to go quite as they all had expected or hoped, as a distraught woman staggers down the incoherent in only her white nightgown. Piecing together her past they find that she has been missing for over eight years prior to her sudden reappearance, having escaped her sadistic captor. Uncovering a lot of uncomfortable truths, she finds that this psychopathic tormentor has their own twisted logic that they follow, as they never make a mistake. Who is behind these nefarious killings? Will she be able to find them before it’s too late? What will become of those that have been abandoned?

I have read the Cody McFadden books on the Bard website which is for the legally blonde and blind. I cannot find any more recent books. The last one I read was from 2009 . I have never read the truth factory because as far as I know it has not been on the Bard website. I am very much interested in more books by Mr. McFadyen. Please let me know of any new releases. I find his books leaving me on the edge of my seat wondering what is going to happen next. I’m trying to figure out who actually is the culprit. Keep up the good work.
