In the United States, Europe and Canada, author Cameron helped in directing and organizing re-enactments of both military and non-military organizations. The 2500th anniversary of the Battle of Marathon was put by him along with the Giannis Kadaglou, Greek re-enactor that took place in the year 2011. This ceremony was held in the city of Marathon, Greece. There were more than 100 re-enactors from around the globe, along with thousands of spectators. The American-Canadian author named Cameron has written five series in total and some stand-alone novels. One of them is the ‘Long War’ series and the first book in this series is titled ‘Killer of Men’ and was published by Orion on 8th January of the year 2010. The main character of the book is Arimnestos, who is a farm boy. He is living happily with his father and brother in the Plataea, but one day the war breaks out. It is between his native Plataea and Thebes, their overbearing neighbors. The fight is between their citizens and it is because of a long conflict. He stands in the battle line for the first time on the wall of bronze along with his brother and father. Fortunately, he shares a victory that no one thought and it became a famous one. Arimnestos was fighting bravely in the fight, but he was knocked out in the crowd and becomes unconscious. Later he wakes up to find that he has become a slave instead of becoming a war hero. He is betrayed by his cousin who is a coward and always jealous of him. All the hard work he has done to get the freedom he deserves has now disappeared. He is now the property of Ephesus’ rich and greedy citizens. Thus starts the journey of a young Arimnestos into the new world full of pain and misery. He begins his epic adventure from a slave boy to a war hero. The situation in the country is very tight as the empire of the Persians is trying to control of Greece. As Arimnestos grows up, he thinks of taking revenge from the person who made his life miserable and disinherited him, but later finds out that the new talent he has, is very useful in the real world. Arimnestos discovers that he has the talent of violence that makes him the new Achilles of the violent world. He is now ‘a killer of men’. This book by author Cameron takes the readers through a great adventure like never before. Readers have found this book a superb one showing the hypocrite world of the ancient Greece and an epic war between the Greece and Athens.

Another novel written by the American-Canadian author Cameron in the Long War series is titled ‘Poseidon’s Spear’ and was published by Orion on 13th September of the year 2012. Arimnestos is also the main character of the book and is now a war hero. What most men only dream about, Arimnestos of Plataea has done that. He was sold into slavery as a boy, but fought and survived it and after growing up, he fought with the invading Persians in the Battle of Marathon and crushed them. His happiness was its peak and he thought that the worst has passed and he can now go home to his wife. But the gods had different plans for him. They were not satisfied with his happiness, so they gave Arimnestos a sorrow he cannot overcome. His great sorrow fell on him when he returned to his farm. After arriving at his farm it is revealed to Arimnestos that during a childbirth his wife Euphoria died and his child also turns to dust in an instant. Everything Arimnestos loved and cared about has been taken from him and there’s nothing remaining in this world for him to live. He decides to jump from a cliff into the sea. But the gods aren’t finished with him yet. They pull him out of the death’s embrace and drops him in the mouth of the lion. He wakes up and finds out that he has been chained in a Phoenician trireme. Thus an epic journey begins of Arimnestos and the crew to uncover their courage and fight for their freedom. For Arimnestos, freedom is so precious that he can even die for it. This book is a great treasure of Greek war and is filled with epic journey and battle.

Is there anything after “The New Achilles” I can read?

Although I was a Royal Marine for nine years I have no great urge to kill anyone, but death in historic fiction gives me enormous pleasure when I am in the hands of masters of their trade. Too many (English at least) have a style blending battle with a sort of Home Counties restraint that must rank grammar at least as highly as gore.

Only Bernard Cornwall and Christian Cameron consistently write stories full of blood and brutal death that ring with authenticity and give so much vicarious pleasure to the reader safe and centuries away in his own home. Or hers, to be wokefully safe.

This is something I should have written long ago, from the first time I read on of your “Tyrants” I had hours of pleasure then (not that many because I read the book over two nights) but every one since has given the delight only a really good book can, and I am eager for more.

    Many thanks,

    Ken Brotherhood.

    And I do buy Hardbacks!
