In the plot of the novel, it is seen that the main protagonist Kelene strives hard to save her family from the brutal chaos happening in her world. The plot of the novel opens in a distant age where the people are forced to bear the atrocities and brutal nature of the world. In the middle of the chaos, Kelene seems to be the only salvation for her family. She appears as an exquisite and beautiful young lady with golden hair. She is described as just entering the embrace of womanhood and having blessed with a great gift, which seems to be a bless as well as a curse for her. As a part of her gift, she is made the protector of the Militant Angels. For most the times in the 14 years of her life, she has been guided by the messengers of the God. They have also been shielded her parents, sisters and brothers from the devastation and horror done on their neighbors by the cruel and bloodthirsty Ottoman hordes.

The second the novel of the series was published by the William Morrow publishing house in the year 1999. It was titled ‘The Soul of an Angel’. In this novel, Fenice Zucchar is depicted as the main character, who is described by the author as a young and beautiful girl living in the opulent splendor of one of the richest islands of her world. She is the daughter of a powerful and wealthy owner of ocean merchant vessels, who has pampered her throughout her life. Even though she lives in the utmost luxury, her soul yearns for the adventures and beautiful sights of the sea far from Venice, which seems to her as a velvet prison. On the eve of her arranged marriage, Fenice flees away by feigning a kidnapping and boards on one of the ships of her brother. When her brother finds her on the ship, her plans get dashed as he refuses to offer her a quarter and eventually abandons her in the port of Varna. At the same time, the city seems to be descending with panic as dark, strange and alluring being seems to overpower the city and caused death to the citizens. With the help of his dark sensuality, he offers more freedom to Fenice, something that she had never imagined. But, he demands her eternal pleasure as she follows him to the mountain domain. Fenice thinks that she will be spending the rest of her life happily along with her Dark Lord, but he has other plans in mind which seem to be deadly for her. In her fearsome adversary, Fenice is helped by Kelene, who becomes her sister and ally. She waits for the Dark Lord in the mountain domain as she has already been corrupted by the terrible passion of the Dracula. However, she is determined not to let him do the same thing to Fenice.
