Charles Lewis Grant was born on September 12, 1942, in Newark, New Jersey. He pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1964. After graduating, he dedicated four years to teaching before serving in the U.S. Army military police in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970, earning a Bronze Star for his service.

In his personal life, Grant married Debbie Voss, with whom he had two children, Emily Kathryn and Ian Matthew. His family grew as Ian had two sons, Payton and Logan, and Emily had three children, Aaron, William, and Ella. In February 1982, Grant married writer and editor Kathryn Ptacek, marking the beginning of another chapter in his life.

In his later years, Grant faced health challenges and ultimately passed away from a heart attack on September 15, 2006. Despite this, his legacy endures through his influential body of work in horror and fantasy. The Orchard

‘The Orchard,’ authored by Charles L. Grant, was published on January 1, 1986, by Tor Books. It is the ninth book in the ‘Oxrun Station’ series, although the series can be read in any order. The novel continues Grant’s tradition of delivering atmospheric and engaging horror fantasy.

One warm evening in Oxrun Station, a lovely time for a picnic turns ominous when a group visits the orchard. The first death appears accidental, but soon after, a suicide and a gruesome murder follow, shattering the tranquility. The horror escalates as it invades a movie theater and a hospital. All these terrifying events stem from that fateful night in the orchard.
