He has written many books on his own and as part of a series author and contributor. He most recently wrote a non-fiction book about technology and agenda setting in the military in fiction, which has entered into its second edition printing. In 2006, it was the winner of an award by the A.L.A.
Charles E. Gannon has been interviewed on N.P.R. and made several media appearances, including on the second installment of the series “Curiosity”. He is a contributor to the Starfire series with Steve White and wrote as a co-author on part of the sixth book of the series, Extremis, and the seventh book, Imperative, published in 2016. He has contributed to the Ring of Fire series with Eric Flint on the fifteenth, seventeenth, and twenty-fourth novels.
He is the sole author of the Caine Riordan series. There are four books in the series, starting with Fire with Fire, published in 2013. He has also written with Eric Flint multiple times and is part of the Stellar Build Box Set One with Eric Flint, Steven Savile, and Kevin J. Anderson. He has been nominated for the Best Novel at the Nebula Awards for three of his books in the Caine Riordan series.
The first book in the Caine Riordan series stars the main character Caine Riordan, who works as an intelligence analyst. The novel was nominated for best novel at the Nebula Awards. The setting is September in 2105. He has a challenging job, and he is used to working gathering information for certain sides and doing it discreetly. So when he uncovers a conspiracy relating to the moon on Earth, this secret project seems like big information.
The trouble is that Caine inevitably gets put into a cell against his will for discovering this. So it is a full twelve years in the future when Riordan wakes up. The only thing is that the world that he knew has definitely changed. Caine is now living in a world where a lot is different, including the travel which has gone to faster than the speed of light at this point. They are working to pioneer the star systems nearby and they are all definitely not in Kansas anymore– particularly Caine.
Now Caine must figure out not only how to adapt to this current world but to also follow a mission that he has been set to carry out with orders from higher up. He wants to become an agent of a conspiracy by traveling to a new world that has just been settled for the purpose of seeing whether a local species that lived there in primitive times was actually sentient, intelligent and aware enough to have built a large and also lost civilization.
When he gets to the system of Delta Pavonis and the site he needs to be at, Caine finds out that his mission is not only not secret, but it’s not safe either. That means that a whole host of people that he didn’t count on being onto him is coming into the picture and following him, hot on his tracks. There are not only people out to sabotage him following him, he has assassins on his tail too that he’s trying to shake. It becomes clear to Caine at some point that someone really doesn’t want him to pull off his mission.
At the end of the day, Caine is forced to use every intelligence analyst’s tool and skill he has ever learned in order to figure out the truth and shake the murderous men on his tail. Someone doesn’t want the mission to succeed, but Caine doesn’t really care. He has the insight that it takes to see what’s going on and the drive to figure out the truth that is ultimately being hidden– an upcoming battle for interstellar power will be wrought, and humanity is going to be dragged in.
In fact, Earth is a key planet when it comes to the struggle for interstellar dominance and it is being included in a fight of the cosmos that it barely even knows about. Caine must figure out how to convince the people in charge that the only way that humanity will survive the battle and come out of it as a species that remains free and alive is to face the problem directly and fight fire with fire this time.
Trial by Fire is the sequel to the popular and nationally best-selling book Fire with Fire. It was a nominee for Best Novel at the Nebula Awards and it won a Compton Crook Award. In this sci-fi thriller, Caine Riordan is back as everyone’s favorite intelligence operative analyst and also now a type of intergalactic diplomat. The facts are that he has come back from what he thought was uncovering a conspiracy and is now a living witness to what has been humanity’s first contact with the alien races.
When the prospect of war comes upon the home planet of Earth, things go haywire. Earth has its fleet totally ruined by a sneak attack and the people who survive must fight for their lives, Caine included. Now it comes down to the skills that he has honed in fighting and contact and communication to contend with the enemy– who is definitely not human.
When the invaders with their superior tech sweep past the last defenses of the solar system, and corporations allow for invaders to send down security forces, the people of Earth must fight back. With courage and cunning, humanity is determined that they won’t go down without a fight.
Earth is hurtling towards its final test and Caine is trying to put the pieces of a terrifying possibility together. Could an earlier apocalypse have happened in history? What if the memories of the war in the past mean that the war will go on? Anything is possible in this nail-biting sequel from Charles E. Gammon– pick it up and see for yourself how this exciting book concludes!
