About Cathy Marie Hake

Writing romance novels, with many of them being historical, the American author Cathy Marie Hake is world-renowned for her unique take on the genre. Publishing a number of novels that have been hugely successful both nationally and internationally, she’s a gifted writer with a lot to say. Knowing her audience inside out at this point, she really understands what they want and expect from each of her novels. She also makes sure to experiment with them, making something that’s quite different in the process, taking them in new and exciting directions.

Saying what she wants to say with her stories, Hake often features an inspirational message in all her novels, along with her romance. This approach has secured her position as one of the biggest household names when it comes to engaging and compelling romance novels. Keeping her many readers glued to the page, she provides plenty of twists and turns, with constant surprises at each page turn. Letting her novels speak for themselves, too, they take on a life of their own, really delivering something quite different and unique in the process.

Creating characters that fully stand out from the page, she has a way with words that really define each of their personalities. Feeling like they get to know the characters personally, her audience builds a real sense of rapport with them as they resonate. This connection is one that’s felt the world over, with readers far and wide forming a bond, regardless of who they are. With a lot more to come yet, she definitely isn’t stopping any time soon either, as there’s plenty more planned on the horizon.

Early and Personal Life

Having a strong imagination from an early age, Cathy Marie Hake would always be interested in storytelling and literature. This passion of hers would develop throughout the years, allowing her to find and nurture her own voice as a writer essentially. Constantly interested in both reading and writing, she would be looking for her own unique approach to the written word.

Finding inspiration in the world around her, she would also begin to focus on romance as a genre, using it to help form her own ideas. Attending nursing school, she would meet her husband in the high school department at church, soon marrying him after finishing her education. Living in Anaheim, California, they have two children, and she has a strong sense of faith which shines through in her work.

Writing Career

Cathy Marie Hake would begin her literary career back in 2000, beginning with the novel ‘Twin Victories,’ which would be a stand-alone romance. She would later begin her first series titled ‘Oklahoma Weddings’ in 2006 with ‘In His Will,’ leading to her writing more romance series as well. Other series she would go on to write would include ‘California Historical’ and ‘Only in Gooding!’ with these also being romances.

Featuring a strong positive message in her work, her faith has helped inspire much of her creative material and output. She’s written alongside numerous other writers, publishing countless omnibus editions of her work and providing various collections. Maintaining a presence and profile both offline and on, she continues to write regularly, with more to follow in the years to come.

That Certain Speak

This historical romance would first come out back in 2009 on the 1st of August and would be released through the ‘Bethany House Publishers’ label. It would also mark the fourth book in the ‘Only in Gooding’ series of books, with them all being set in the same small town in the same period. Each of the books can be read as stand-alone romance titles, although there are elements and arcs brought over from the previous novels.

The siblings Enoch and Taylor Bestman arrive in Gooding, Texas, sending the town into an uproar over the fact that she’s a lady doctor. Her first reluctant patient is the blacksmith Karl Van der Vort, and he soon discovers she’s good at her job, much to his surprise. Chemistry grows between them both as she shows her freedom as a woman, despite the rest of the town’s protestations and shock. Will the two of them come together in the end, can they overcome their differences, and what will the rest of the town think when they hear that certain speak?

There’s a lot of attention to detail and the time that this is set within, clearly reflecting the attitudes of the era. Readers will definitely enjoy the romance between the two lead characters as well, with the narrative being extremely well-plotted. Instantly grabbing the reader’s attention, it’s got an engaging story on every level with plenty of twists and turns along the way.

No Buttons or Beaux

Initially published in 2006 on the 1st of June, this would first come out through the ‘Heartstrong Presents’ publishing imprint. It would be the third and final book in the much loved ‘California Brides’ trilogy of historical romance novels. Taking place in the small town of Reliable, California, this is another historical romance novel, with each of the novels being entirely stand-alone romances.

Not knowing how to be courted, April Chance is set to be taught by none other than Peter MacPherson, as he aims to marry her. Wanting to start a family of his own with her, she doesn’t realize his intentions, seeing him in only a brotherly way, but she doesn’t realize her own feelings. Not feeling overly feminine, she must come to understand what it is that she wants in life before it’s too late. Will they manage to find one another, can April discover herself, and what happens when they find there are no buttons or beaux?

It’s a great final novel from the series, bringing everything to a close with its highly engaging and inventive story. Each of the characters themselves really comes to life upon the page, giving the reader people to fully root for throughout. The setting itself is also extremely well-realized, making for an extremely satisfying and compelling conclusion to the series overall.
