A Walking Shadow is the first novel to come out from the Detective Markham fictional mystery series. With interesting characters and a unique crime plot, this is one book you won’t want to miss. St. Mary’s Choir School is your average religious school. This would be true, except now the school has found themselves at the center of an unusual situation. That is because on the grounds of the school, two skeletons have been found. While some religious sites also have cemeteries or burial grounds on the, these two skeletons were certainly not part of a religious burial that had happened centuries ago.
You can tell thanks to the fact that the two are found in clothing that is from current times. With the modern clothing confirming that the skeletons probably makes them recent victims, there has also been evidence that there was foul play involved.
Just like that, the school is set on edge and nobody is happy that this sacred and consecrated land has been subject to such a grotesque violation. The deaths are also casting the school in a bad light. Clearly, someone is going to have to come in and see what there is to be done about the crime.
Enter a detective inspector known by the name of Gilbert Markham. This main character works in the Bromgrove police force, where he is good enough at this job to be described as a rising talent. It’s widely accepted that these were murders, and so Markham is on the case right away. He’s trailing the killer, but when another individual falls fatally victim to this mysterious person, the stakes get even higher.
Markham is determined to find out who this killer is and bring them to justice. However, as they amp up their operation, it seems that he and his team are running into more resistance and even hostility from the locals as they do so. Is this just a natural fearful response to what is going on? Or is the panic starting to become so wide spread that it’s out of control?
Surely catching the person responsible will do something to calm the minds of the local people. But as DI Markham is doing his best to try and crack the case, they may find that the corruption goes further than they ever would have guessed. When it’s suspected that Markham’s girlfriend could be the next target of the killer, Markham is going to have to do everything he can to try and close this case for good and save the one he loves.

Blood Will Have Blood is the second novel in the Detective Markham series. Check out this sequel and you’ll soon find out why this British mystery series is so popular.
Readers will have the chance to meet the main character of Detective Inspector Gilbert Markham, also known as ‘Gil’. This talented detective is good at his job. His childhood was difficult, but instilled in him traits that make him a professional superstar. His austere nature and commitment to the job, as well as an emotional distance that keeps him level-headed, help him track down criminals for a living. Even if it means clashing with DCI Sidney, his boss.
Markham has a new case to tackle yet again in attempt to keep Bromgrove safe. The killer has struck already. Ashley Dean was a well-liked teacher at local Hope Academy that has been horribly killed. The local rumors say that it was the work of an intruder who was troubled. However, Markham doubts that very much.
His gut instinct points him elsewhere. This could have been a disgruntled student or even staff member. Adding to the affair is the fact that his girlfriend, Olivia, is actually an employed teacher at this very school. This makes her both a potential suspect (although unlikely), and possible target.
The Detective Inspector is on the job, along with his trusted team. They instinctively go deep on this case, and soon are finding that they are getting some push back. As the community starts to chafe at Markham’s investigation, he cannot shake the feeling that there are people in positions of authority and power that don’t want them to find the correct answers.
Could someone be hiding information? And if so, what? With a killer still on the loose, Markham’s going to have to dig deep if he wants to apprehend the killer and allow a school to finally breathe a sigh of relief. Can he do it– or will more blood fall? Read this book to find out!
