Carolina Bale is a popular Irish author, who likes to write crime fiction, thriller, suspense, and mystery stories. Author Bale was born and brought up in Dublin, Ireland. She still resides there. Her interest lies in reading and writing fast-paced crime fiction stories with psychological twists. She entered the competition with her debut book, I Will Make You Pay, which she intends to develop into a multiple-book series. This book is also the first one to feature the chief protagonist created by her, DI Ellen McClure. Author Bale has also penned a short story called Vainglorious Bastard. It was published in the new crime stories collection from Ireland known as Sins in 2018.

Another short story written by her is entitled Sessions with Elena. It is expected to be published in 2019 in a separate collection of new crime short stories. Author Bale is a graduate of Philosophy & Classical Studies from Trinity College, Dublin. She has also obtained a master’s degree in the subject of Psychotherapy. Currently, Bale resides in Blackrock, Dublin. She enjoys all the simple things in her life like drinking tea, chatting with her family members, taking long walks on Killiney Hill, visiting the beach with her loving partner, looking after her two dogs, etc. Author Bale is highly influenced by the works of some of the most prominent authors, including Peter Robinson, Val McDermid, Angela Marsons, Michael Connolly, etc. As her novel has received many positive reviews and has been read worldwide in just two months of its publication, Bale is hopeful that it will help her establish herself among the top-rated authors of the crime fiction genre. The debut book written by author Caroline Bale is entitled ‘I Will Make You Pay’. It was released in June 2019. The lead character of this book is depicted as DI Ellen McClure. Other essential characters created by author Bale in this book include Connie Taylor, Vicky, Kallie, Zoe, Sarika Kaur, Anthony, etc. The book opens by mentioning that Detective Ellen McClure goes on the trail of a vicious murderer who likes playing games. He sets his eyes on his next target, Connie Taylor. Connie works as a prostitute and usually comes out at night. The killer keeps a tight watch on her activities and follows her everywhere she goes. He sees that she visits a particular restaurant regularly, so he befriends a waitress working there and gains her confidence. Connie Taylor’s coarseness disgusts the killer and he amuses himself about covering her face with acid. Finally, the day comes when he decides to victimize Connie. He sees her sitting in the cafe and proceeds to kidnap her.

The killer intends to obtain the information that he wants from Connie and then torture her to death the same night. The next day, Connie’s head is discovered outside a house is located in York’s upmarket Heworth Green. Following this discovery, Ellen McClure gets embroiled in a complex murder investigation. This investigation pits her against her family and colleagues, but she doesn’t back out. Ellen’s boss thinks that Connie was murdered by one her ex-client and orders her to shut the case soon. But, Ellen McClure thinks otherwise. Later, Ellen gets a call from a woman named Vicky, who informs her that she is being chased by a psychopath. Vicky has run away from her house with her 5-year-old daughter named Kallie. Now, the lives of both mother and daughter are in danger. In her desperation to save Kallie and Vicky, Ellen drags her young daughter named Zoe in the way of the deadly psychopath.

The psychopath does not appear to rest before he completes his murderous rampage and Ellen McClure has everything to lose if she doesn’t stop him before time. This novel provides a gripping story filled with massive twists and turns. It is a perfect read for the fans of Damien Boyd, Mark Billingham, Kimberley Chambers, Patricia Gibney, or Rachel Abbott. Author Bale has described Ellen McClure as a thirty-eight-year-old detective inspector. She is a dedicated and determined detective with an impeccable record. Ellen strives to protect innocent people and catch criminals. After leaving her cheating husband named Anthony, she relocated to York with her 13-year-old daughter. York is the place where she grew up and finds herself at home. Ellen’s inclusion in the Serious Crimes Unit is under the cloud as she had previously provided evidence against a senior member during her last posting.
