Carl Weber is one of the New York Times bestselling author from America who has written a few successful novels based on the urban romance genre. He is particularly famous for writing down the Church series, The Family Business series, Big Girls series, ‘Lookin’ For Luv’ series, and The Choir Director series. Other than being an author, Carl is also the publisher and the founder of the Urban Books publishing house. He even owns the bookstore chain called as the Urban Knowledge. Before going on to become a full time novelist, Carl completed his graduation from the Virginia State University. Later, he obtained his MBA from the University of Virginia in the field of marketing. Author Carl began his writing career in the year 2000 when he wrote and published his debut novel titled ‘Lookin’ For Luv’. Other than being the New York Times bestselling author, he is also listed as one of the bestselling authors of Essence. The Blackboard magazine has also listed him as the Publisher of the Year. Being a book mogul, author Carl is often referred to as the O. Diddy of the Afro-American publishing world.
As many as 14 of his novels have been listed in the New York Times bestselling list. In all, Carl has written around 22 novels in total in his writing career till now. Because of his unique style of writing and depicting the Afro-American culture widely in his novels, he is considered to be one of the premier Afro-American authors of the country. However, author Carl Weber does not consider writing to be his primary job as he is the acting CEO, President, and the Publisher of the company called Urban Book LLC. Under this publishing company, Carl has published more than 2500 books. Throughout the years, the dedicated efforts of author Carl have helped Urban Books to become the largest publishing company in the whole world owned by an Afro-American man. In his other effort of running a chain of bookstores under the Urban Knowledge company, Carl has been awarded with the Bookseller of the Year award by Blackboard. Very recently, author Carl has taken the job of a screenwriter. He has written and self-produced 3 of his bestselling novels, The Preacher’s Son, The Choir Director, and The Man in 3B, into independent movies under his own production company named Urban Books Media LLC.
One of the successful novel series written by author Carl Weber is The Family Business series, which consists of a total of 5 books published between the years 2012 and 2016. This series deals with the story of the Duncan Family, which lives as a prominent family in Jamaica, Queens. They are well known for their fancy cars, lavish lifestyle, and a big house. However, they do not seem immune from the drama in their lives. L.C. Duncan is the eldest member of the family who is believed to have set up the successful car dealership business in Jamaica, Queens and has been running it for more than 30 years. Now, he asked to retire as the competition begins to get tough during the time of recession. He thinks of spending his retirement life amidst the Palm trees and on the golf course. But, he still seems to have several tricks up his sleeve. L.C. Duncan now begins to face the dilemma of deciding which of his children are trustworthy enough to carry forward the family business.
One of his children named Paris is described as an attractive lady. She seems to have the knack of getting in trouble all the time because of her anger issues. People believe her to be even more dangerous than she appears to be. Duncan’s son named Orlando seems to be the most obvious choice to become the head of the family business. He has also proven himself to be a true business by his quality of work over the years. But, L.C. Duncan believes that the obvious choice is not the best choice sometimes. The husband of Duncan’s eldest daughter, Harris Grant claims to be the most qualified for running the family business. However, he is required to convince L.C about his capabilities, also making sure that no one comes to know about his well hidden secret. Over the course of the series, it is seen that a few other members of the Duncan family are also hiding some or the other dark secret. Those secret are hidden so deep that if they get revealed, they have the capacity of shocking the entire community. The first novel of The Family Business series was published in the year 2012 under the title ‘The Family Business’. It was released by the Urban Books publishing house and revolved around the lives of the member of the Duncan family.
In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, it is shown that the Duncan family runs a successful business of car dealership during the day, but they go on to live a life full of secrets during the night. L.C. Duncan is introduced as the family’s patriarch and has grown old enough to think about his retirement days in sunny Florida. But the recession hits the family business very hard which makes worrying. Also, he has to make the important decision of choosing among his children to lead the family business after his retirement. The workaholic son of L.C. Duncan easily gets the nod to become the next head of the business, but he faces obstacles from his siblings Vegas, London, Paris, and Rio. Soon, it seems that the business alliance of the Duncans with the rival family of the Zunigas is about to explode. This is followed by the breaking away of Vegas and London’s husband Harris causes all the hell to break loose. Later, it is revealed that selling cars was just a small part of the life of the Duncans and that each of them was having a secret to reveal. They begin to face siege from the Mexican cartels, Zunigas, and the Mafia, after which they are required to come together or else they would die separately.
The second novel of the series was published under the title ‘The Family Business 2’. It was released in the year 2013 by the Urban Books publishing house. In this novel, author Carl has tried to add more drama as well as new family members, with the help of author Treasure Hernandez. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, it is shown that the Duncan family runs the most reputed car dealerships in New York during the daytime and control the drug traffic of the East Coast during the night. Whether they are doing their day or night jobs, the Duncans do not let any dull moment enter into their lives. Soon, a drama unfolds in the Duncan family over the question of who is the father of the new born babies of the Duncan sisters. Meanwhile, the newly appointed CEO of the family business, Orlando Duncan develops a new product which could turn the family from millionaires to billionaires. However, he seems to have an obstacle in the path of his progress in the form of his mother. She seems to be the most formidable opponent of Orlando Duncan till date, as she makes the family members to take sides. Now, the Duncans are required to find a way to avert the civil war among themselves before they get torn apart permanently.

The tv show does try to do it but the books gives it all to you. now im waiting for books 6 7 8 9, in that order.
