CJ Carmichael is a USA Today bestselling author that has penned more than 45 titles in the mystery and romance genres. The author has gotten two nominations for the RITA Romance Writers Award in addition to the Bestseller’s Best Honor and the Romantic Suspense award. Before she became a bestselling author, Carmichael used to be an accountant and she gave up the thrills of double entry book keeping and income tax forms when she published “Together by Christmas” under Harlequin Romance in 2002. Since then, she has gone on to publish more than thirty five novels under Harlequin and several others with Tule Publishing, which is responsible for her western romance novels. In addition to her traditionally published novels, CJ has also written several cozy mystery novels as a self published author. When CJ is not writing her novels, she loves to spend her time with her husband and her grown up daughters. The family loves the outdoors and can often be found hiking in the Rocky Mountains near Calgary. They also love to relax and spend time in Flathead Lake, Montana which has been their summer home for years.
While Carmichael now makes her home in Calgary, she is a native of Vancouver and at some point, she spent about seven years in Toronto. Nonetheless, she still likes to consider herself a small town girl. The reason for this is that she was brought up in Saskatchewan, on a farm where her family raised chickens and hogs, grew barley and for some time had the largest non commercial vegetable farm. She always knew she wanted to have children but she found that motherhood was so much fun once she had Tessa and Lorelle, her two daughters. She believes that her two daughters’ good behavior made it so much easier. Her husband also has two grown up daughters as well as family and friends in Montreal whom they visit on a regular basis. She has made a name for herself writing novels about normal people that find themselves in extraordinary circumstances since that is the type of story she loves to write and read.
Growing up, CJ Carmichael was huge on books as she loved to read a lot. Now that her children have grown up and she has to deal with empty nest syndrome she decided to become a full time author. While she still has interests such as snowshoeing in the mountains with Mike, her husband and partner, cross country skiing, hiking, playing board games and socializing with friends and family, reading remains her favorite hobby. Despite her love for fiction, when she grew up and wanted to go to college, she went into business as she did not think she could make a career out of writing. She ended up studying Commerce and after several years of articling and exams, she qualified as a chartered accountant. Carmichael spent more than half a dozen years as an accountant and even though he enjoyed his job, he always yearned for a career as an author. She started writing manuscripts on a typewriter in the evening in 1998 that she would send to Harlequin hoping for some good news. While the novels that she had read as a teen seemed to have such a simple structure, she found that she had to learn and that achieving the structure needed a lot of talent and skill. She worked on acquiring the skills she needed and in 2002 published her debut novel under Harlequin Romance and has not looked back since, becoming a prolific author.
“Buried” by CJ Carmichael is a novel set in Twisted Cedars, a coastal town where two unsolved mysteries continue to dog the town. More than three decades back, there had been several murders of Oregon librarians and the homicides had remained a mystery. But someone who seems to have insider knowledge had been feeding hints to Dougal Lachlan, a true crime writer. He has told him that he has information that could change the trajectory of his career. But pursuing the story means he needs to go back to Twisted Cedars where Jamie, his sister, is about to marry a man he considers despicable. Charlotte Hammond the local librarian of Twisted Cedars prefers to read about mysteries in books rather than in real life. Daisy, her older sister, had gone missing eight years ago and she has never gotten over the loss. But then the tortured and dark soul of Dougal Lachlan comes into the city asking for help. It is not long before Charlotte discovers that no place in town is safe.
In “Forgotten” by CJ Carmichael, a new shocking secret is unearthed in the small coastal town of Twisted Cedars. Sheriff Wade Mackay had been fishing in Rogue River when he found a cargo truck that seemed to have veered off the road while traveling down a winding road. The driver is already dead and on the passenger seat is an unconscious woman in her early thirties that seemed to have sustained a severe injury to the head. When she regains consciousness the following day while at the local hospital, she cannot remember anything from the events of the previous day. Given that she does not have any form of identification on her, no one knows who she is. Judging by her bruises, she had been injured prior to the accident and Wade thinks she was fleeing from someone when she decided to take a ride with the truck driver. But protecting her is going to be difficult since she does not even know her identity. His office is already doing its best to investigate the death of one of his best friends from school. Meanwhile, Dougal Lachlan who is a true crime writer has been trying his best not to write a novel that would require him to face his inner demons.
CJ Carmichael’s “Exposed” is the story of the disappearance of a young boy. His disappearance had set the town on edge which is made worse by the fact that the list of possible suspects is too long. True crime author Dougal Louchlan has his own theories about what happened and who may have been responsible. When Ed, his father who had been convicted of serial killings contacts him, his fears are confirmed. He now has to work with Ed in putting together the story about a string of murders committed by his father decades ago. The sooner the novel is written and published, the sooner the boy will be released.
