Two boys who have been through an incredible amount in their past want nothing more than to find the perfect home for them and stay there forever. Sam is fifteen years old, and he and his brother Avery have been abandoned by all of the relatives that he has ever known in life. Avery is his older sibling, but he is also autistic.
The weight falls on Sam’s shoulders to try and make a life for them to enjoy. He is able to make ends meet by breaking into houses that have been left empty while the owners are off somewhere else on vacation or traveling.
It’s been going well for a while, but Sam is caught off guard one day when a family suddenly comes home in the middle of his break-in. This could be incredibly bad news for him, but he is shocked when they extend kindness to him instead of calling the cops.
Sam is astonished that this huge family has embraced him as one of their own, but it turns out that it’s not entirely altruistic. Each of the teens has just thought that Sam was one of their sibling’s friends, and no one has bothered to fact check with each other whether it’s true.
Sam is involved in their life to an incredible degree and is finding himself falling for Moxie, one of the family members, who is extremely beautiful. The only problem is that Sam is harboring a secret, one that may ultimately come to interfere with his new role as part of this family if it is found out.
The past is making its way towards him, and now there may be no way of avoiding it any longer. Will Sam find a way to keep everything at bay, and can he finally create a new life for his brother and himself that is actually fulfilling? Or will he discover that when it comes to living, he’s got a long way to go until things smooth out? Read this story to find out how he does and whether things work out for Sam and Avery.
The Kings of Nowhere is the second book in The Boy Who Steals Houses series by C.G. Drews. If you read the first book in this series and enjoyed it, then check out the second story in this series and see what you think!
Avery Lou used to steal from houses, and now he’s changing things around and building them instead. It’s not the ideal situation and not necessarily what he wants, but it’s sort of what he has to do right now. Avery is being made to stay with the De Laineys until Sam has gotten back from juvie, but it’s really difficult.
Avery’s practically drowning. He doesn’t at all like that Sam chose not to run away with him and instead wanted to stay with the De Laineys. He also doesn’t like that he has to work in the construction company while at the same time the thief who hurt his brother is out there and about. When it comes to Vin, Avery wants to seek his revenge.
He changes out the world of car theft and burglary for a large family life, which is a huge adjustment. Avery wants to do anything to shake things up and get put in juvie with Sam instead. But he has a battle that he is waging against Vin that’s brought nothing but trouble to the home of the De Laineys, and he might need their help to get rid of them. What will happen?
