Bridget Collins is a published author, also known as B.R. Collins.
Born in 1981, she trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art as an actor after she had studied English at King’s College in Cambridge.
She has written several acclaimed books intended for younger adults. She has also had two of her plays produced, one of which was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She has also been shortlisted for the 2020 British Book Award Debut Book of the Year for The Binding, her debut 2018 novel.
The Binding is the first fictional book to come out from Bridget Collins. If you love a good unique story that could fall into the genres of everything from fantasy to historical fiction to LGBTQIA+ romance and more, or are just looking for an entertaining yarn, check this book out!
When it comes to this alternate universe, books are not something safe or informative but dangerous things. This is a world that could be compared to England in the 19th century, but it also reminds the reader a bit of Eternal Sunshine.
In this world, people seek out book binders and visit them in order to get rid of memories that bother them. The memories can be painful or treacherous, but they are no longer wanting them in their minds. Their stories get told and then are put into the pages of a book and bound. Once that is done, their slate as it would appear is wiped clean. The memories no longer have the ability to haunt the clients.
Emmett Farmer goes through some type of strange mental collapse that leaves him unable to keep up with the farm chores that he had previously been doing. He’s sent to the workshop of a binder to work and live there as her apprentice.
Emmett leaves behind his family and his home and gets his health back all while learning about the binding trade. The one thing that he cannot do is go into the locked room where they keep the books. He spends months going over end pages, touching up leather book covers, and carefully gilding edges.
Still, he cannot help but be curious by all the people that arrive and leave the inner sanctum. When the stately Lucian Darnay arrives, he cannot help but feel intrigued. He feels like he has a connection with this man. One that might end up changing everything. Will he respect that he cannot go there professionally, or will this allure be too much to resist? Read this book to find out!
The Betrayals is the second fictional book to come out from Bridget Collins. Historical fiction meets fantasy, romance, mystery and more in this totally unique book that will have you turning the pages to find out what happens in the end!
If everything that you had in life was based on something that was not true, would you put it all on the line to reveal the falsehood?
Montverre is an exclusive academy that is hidden away in the mountains. Here the brightest and the best all come together and they are trained to be excellent in something called the grand jeu. This is a mysterious contest that they all compete in.
Léo Martin was a student at the academy once, but it turned out that he had lost his passion for the contest after a violent tragedy occurred. He has come back in disgrace and come back to the old place where he used to learn due to his political career having completely fallen apart.
Montverre has certainly changed quite a bit since he did his time there as a student. They’ve even gone so far as to install a woman in the Magister Ludi position, the highest office of the grand jeu. Claire Dryden is now serving in this position and making history while doing so.
Léo feels something strong go through him when he glimpses Claire for the first time. He knows that they have never met before, but they have a connection together all the same. Perhaps it is that they share something in common– they have both constructed their lives based on lies.
The Midsummer Game is the peak of the year and is coming ever closer. With so many secrets swirling within these walls, will the academy end up be the setting where both of their inner secrets are at last revealed? Read this wonderful fantasy story from Bridget Collins to find out!
