Brenda Li is a bestselling children’s fiction illustrator and author and a mother of two children who makes her home in Vancouver, Canada.

Before she made her name as an iconic author of children’s fiction novels, Brenda was an award-winning visual effects artist for film and an award-winning motion designer for TV.

Over the years, she has worked on many significant projects as she has worked on the likes of “Tron Legacy,” “Thor,” and “Transformers 3” among several other high-profile movies in Hollywood.
Earlier on she went to The University of British Columbia where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics, minoring in commerce.

Nonetheless, Brenda had always been interested in art, and in 2009, she attended the Vancouver Film School where she got a diploma in 3D Digital Character Animation.
Li also has a Desktop Publishing Certificate from the British Columbia Insititute of Technology.

As such, even though she only has a diploma and certificates in art, she prefers to draw and illustrate children’s fiction works rather than dabble in economics.

On a typical day, Brenda Li can usually be found wrangling her kids. She usually drives them to school, drops them off at hockey and soccer, deals with their tantrums, and cheers them on at hockey and soccer.
She can also be found illustrating and writing stories on her iPad and chasing her dreams all at the same time. Brenda published “Parenting – You Will Never Pee Alone Again” her debut novel in 2018 and has been writing ever since.
She now has more than a dozen children’s fiction novels to her name across several series and single-standing titles.

On her website “Pig in Jeans + Pals,” Brenda Li is all about positivity and kindness given one book at a time.

She is also a behemoth in the social media sphere as she has more than twelve thousand followers on Instagram and fifty thousand followers on Facebook.
Over the years, her novels have been shared more than 200 thousand times and have been viewed more than 50 million times.

She always says that her mission is to promote inclusion, empathy, and kindness in children through her books.

Apart from her writing, Brenda Li is also involved in author visits which she believes provide some of the best opportunities to visit schools, bookstores, libraries, daycares, and other venues to meet with young readers.
Through these visits, she usually shares insights about her illustrations and story creations. It is also a good opportunity for students to connect with the illustrator/author, learn more about writing, and ask questions about the publishing, illustrating, and writing process.
Sometimes, she engages in mini drawing lessons read alouds, and other kinds of fun activities with children.

Brenda Li’s novel “I Turned My Mom Into a Unicorn” is a powerful and positive lesson about thankfulness. Initially, Ted believed that his mother was always in a bad mood and dreamed about turning her into a super fun unicorn.
One night he makes a wish on a star and she turns into a unicorn but now he finds himself missing all the things she used to do for him when she was a human mother.

He no longer gets to enjoy his mother’s pancakes and her bedtime stories and now he begins to appreciate her love and all the good things she used to get from his grumpy mother.

It is an easy-to-read novel that gets children to be thankful, as they learn to appreciate what they have through some hilarious scenes and a funny storyline.

Children will not only be entertained and get to laugh but they will also get a heartwarming twist at the end of it all.

It comes with lessons on how to develop strong bonds between parents and children and the simple vocabulary will build the confidence of children who are learning to read. It also comes with some free and fun coloring pages at the back.

Brenda Li’s novel “The Unicorn Who Sold Zero Cupcakes” has to be one of the most powerful books for raising powerful and strong minds in little girls. The lead in the work is a unicorn who is selling cupcakes but she just cannot make any sales.
Unicorn and her friend Ted Giraffe wanted nothing more than to set up a cupcake stand in the park to make their thousands.

While they set up their stand, no one seemed interested in their cupcakes even when Unicorn got a megaphone. Could it be because their cupcakes were too small or maybe because they did not have a face?

Ultimately they decided that they would attract customers using some entertainment and put on their tutus to begin dancing some ballet. But this too does not work and they decide to do something outrageous.
It is a work that teaches girls to be strong-minded through an entertaining and easy-to-read story that is made even better by some hilarious illustrations.

It teaches kids to never give up even though things can sometimes get very frustrating and difficult. Rather it asks kids to be mighty and strong and encourages creative thinking to solve challenges.
Just like the previous novel, it comes with some cute and fun illustrations.

“Unicorn’s Slime Rescue” by Brenda Li is a work all about teaching kids about helping others in need and kindness.

Ted and Unicorn venture into the words looking for the perfect spot where they could play with slime. But along the way they come across classic famous characters needing their help.

In addition to helping kids about the importance of kindness to help others, it is a novel that also helps children to be more confident about themselves. It teaches kids to be compassionate and kind while promoting positivity and happiness within themselves.
Just like most of Brenda’s novels, it comes with some simple vocabulary that will build the confidence of young readers.

All in all, it is a wonderful story with some beautiful illustrations that weaves in several well-known fairy tales that all kids aged seven will absolutely love.
