Blake Pierce is a bestselling author best known for the writing of mystery novels that have earned her much popularity. Her most popular series is the Riley Page Mysteries, the first of which was “Once Gone” that was first published in 2015. Even as she started her writing career in 2015, Blake is one of the most prolific of writers, writing over twenty novels in the Riley Page, Mackenzie White, Keri Locke, and Avery Black mystery series of novels.

Blake has always had a love for thriller and mystery novels and would read such works from her early childhood days right up to the time she started writing her own. Most of her novels have gone on to become bestsellers in their genres with his first novel particularly successful. Unlike many of her peers in the mystery genre, Blake does not have a publisher preferring to self-publish his critically acclaimed novels.

Apart from her novels, very little is known of the enigmatic Blake Pierce with hardly any information about her background. Despite having written many popular thrillers and mysteries, the writer remains an enigma. The Riley Page series are dark psychological thrillers with some of the most heart pounding suspense you could ever find in a novel. The novels feature FBI Special Agent Riley Page, a woman traumatized by past events in her life.

Her past makes her take too many risks in her job that in real-life would make her unsuitable to the high-pressure environment of working in such dangerous situations. However, Page finds escape from her personal struggles in her work, as she is the lead specialist on a team that solves serial murder mysteries. The novels are fast-paced and dark psychological thrillers with much suspense that are sure to enthrall any thriller and mystery fan.

The author does a very good job developing the character of the lead character in the series. Blake does a good job describing the psychological side of her characters making it so easy to get inside their minds to cheer for their success and follow their motivations and feats. She goes from being a troubled soul who struggles to make any relationship work to a strong character who gets married in the latter books.

Taking in a variety of settings ranging from the city of Delaware to a military complex in California to a university campus in Georgia, the novels bring new and exciting elements and characters with each novel. Full of twists and turns, the novels will keep you engrossed from the very first page to the last. The Mackenzie White Mysteries just like the Riley page are dark psychological narratives following the life and times of a female police officer turned FBI agent. When we are first introduced to Detective Mackenzie White she a tough, determined young detective working in the local police force.

She works alongside chauvinistic older men in the murder department who often find they need her brilliant young mind to help crack cold cases, which have stumped almost everyone in the force. However, it is not all roses for the young detective as she is dealing with many issues such as failed relationships, attraction to FBI agents, and her dark past. What makes it worse is that the hunt for her serial killers always seems to take her back to the dark recesses of her mind that she would rather forget.

Over the course of the series, she battles the psychology of a range of serial killers obsessing over their twisted minds and discovers that evil is a fact of life. Blake makes the series very interesting by incorporating a range of settings and suspected serial killers that target the blind, happily married couples, and even prostitutes. The haunted background story of the lead character makes for some added spice to the novel. She frequently finds herself in games of cat and mouse with psychotic killers even as she has to contend with office politics of chauvinism.

“Once Gone”, the first novel of the Riley Page Mystery a dark psychological thriller about the hunt for a serial killer. The lead protagonist is Special Agent Riley Paige, who is on the trail of a psychopathic killer, who is killing women in grotesque ways in rural Virginia. Paige is the best detective in town, though she is currently on leave recuperating from a recent rigorous case. The FBI is reluctant to tap the brilliant detective’s mind, given that she is quite fragile.

However, Riley needs to fight her own demons and plunges right in, trawling through the dark subculture of petty criminals, into broken homes, and even right into the disturbed mind of a deranged serial killer. As she gets deeper into the mind of the killer, she realizes that she is in a race against time and is facing not only a twisted killer, but also a very cunning one. She is now pushing the limits of her fragile psyche, putting her family in danger and putting her job on the line. Yet Paige has never been a quitter and this case will not break her down. The case becomes an obsession that ultimately ends in a shocking climax that she never could have imagined.

“Once Taken”, the second novel of the Riley Page Mysteries is a heart pounding suspense that will have you gripped right from the first page to the last. Riley, the Special Agent that is still reeling from solving the bizarre case in the first novel, is called in to assist in a bizarre case of murders. The police have been finding women hanging from chains killed by a murderer that operates in upstate New York.

Convinced that a former serial killer is now stalking her, Riley is more determined than ever not to take another serial killer case, especially one in which the victims are women. However, she recognizes that nobody in the FBI has the obsessive nature and ability to psychoanalyze the killer better than she does. She takes up the case even as she knows it may just be the one that drives her over the cliff.

Her investigations lead her into prisons, mental hospitals, and orphanages as she tries to comprehend the psychosis of a manic killer. Acknowledging that the killer is a true psychopath, she knows that it is only a matter of time before he kills again. But with her fragile psyche on the verge of collapse, her family a target, and her job on the line – could it be too much for the detective.

I love these stories although sometimes there is a lot of mistakes. In the last book there was a name change of a main character. I have developed a compulsiveness because I can’t keep up with your books. By the time I finish one book there are so many more to try and catch up. Although it is good in some ways. I have been reading your books for 3 years and enjoy very much

I think the real mystery here is – how the heck does the author write so many books per year? Over 50 in 2022 and if I counted right 23 so far in 2023. In 2022 that is like one a week!

I agree ! She is one of the most prolific writers ever!
So many different series and 4-5 books per year in each – could it be a group of outhors?

The narrator for “girl, taken” is awful. Her voice is flat and I can’t listen to it. The first book in this series was fabulous, and read by someone different. I mistakenly bought the second book assuming it would be the same reader. I can’t listen to anymore of the series now.

I just finished the Riley Paige series and I have one major complaint. The original narrator should have done the entire series. The second narrator was terrible. Her pronunciation of common American English terms was horrendous. She also made a swallowing sound during her recordings that was terribly distracting. If she is the narrator of the next Blake Pierce audiobook, I’ll just pass and move on to another author.

I agree about an English narrator for characters in the USA, especially in the South! And mispronouncing words like Yosemite (Yo-si-might!!!) is dreadful! The narrator really is quite good in general, but totally wrong for these novels. I’ve gotten used to it and accept it because I want to listen to audiobooks in my car. The plots are gripping! But really…

I listened to one of your books for the first time about a month ago. I enjoyed the story in the second Mackenzie White book but was really put off by the strong English accent of the narrator’s reading of a Nebraska woman. Schedule rhyming with shed and vitamin with bit for example. it was so off-putting that I almost didn’t download the first book. I ended up listening to book one and downloaded the third. I ended up not finishing the third – again because of the narrator’s accent and annoying interpretation of the secondary character’s words.
I’m curious about your choice of her as the narrator of a book about a Midwest protagonist.

Since I do like your stories, I downloaded a Jessie Hunt book when I saw it was a different narrator. I’m getting used to Abigail Reno’s almost lethargic reading and will probably finish listening.

You are a good story writer. Your choice of narrators not so much.
