Becca Steele is a Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance books. With more than 20 books under her name, Becca now enjoys her stay in the South of England with her family, where she spends her days bringing the characters in her head to life through her books. When not writing, you will find Becca watching Netflix or reading books, and if none of this works, you will find her online creating a Spotify playlist or hunting for memes.
First published in 2020, The Lies We Tell is the first book in the “Four” series by Becca Steele. We meet Winter Huntington, who transferred to Alstone College to be close to her estranged mother and investigate her father’s mysterious death. However, things turn twisted when she encounters Caiden Cavendish, one of the most famous boys on campus, and her stepmother. Caiden and his gang dubbed, The Four, seem to always have something against her right from the start. They are always stalking her on every move she makes and are focused on making her feel unwelcome. But despite this, Winter won’t let them bully her around, and she stays on her main agenda to find out what happened to her father.
The Four insult her, warn her, key her car, and stalk her every move, but it’s not long before she finds out that not all of the Four have such hatred toward her. Some of them are kind to her. But Caiden isn’t one of them. He hates her and has his reasons for this hate. Winter can’t figure out why his hate is so strong. However, deep down, the two have undeniable chemistry, and judging by the old saying, there’s always a thin line between love and hate.
Becca Steele did a fantastic job with the Four. Each group member has a unique personality, so that you will have no problem distinguishing one from the other. You also have no trouble falling in love with either of them. The attraction between Caiden and Winter is scorching hot. Caiden tries so much to keep a cold demeanor towards Winter and pretends to hate her. However, he becomes possessive whenever he’s near Winter and always wants his hands all over her. Winter seems to be happy with him; her body responds well to his nearness in ways she never imagined. You will love the banter and constant teasing, a battle of wits between them.
There’s a slow-burn romance between them initially, but their chemistry becomes explosive when they finally get together. Winter is an aggressive and determined young lady who manages to keep boys in check and doesn’t tolerate their bullshit. On the other hand, Caiden is the paradigm of an alpha male and Greek god all in one serving. Although he has trust issues, Winter is the only woman who brings down all the walls he built around him, allowing him to open up to her.
The supporting characters are fantastic. You will fall in love with Cassius’s relaxed attitude and witty comments. He is a manwhore, but despite this, he is the most endearing of the four. There’s also the sweet and nerdy Weston. He is the youngest of the four and also Caiden’s young brother. As a tech genius, the other guys can’t live without him as their whole operation depends on his skill. He’s most welcoming to Winter, and they form a brother sister relationship. Zayde and his annoying personality also make the story more interesting. He is the true definition of a bad boy with tattoos. He rarely talks, but when he does, everyone pays attention. All four boys are so unique from each other. The book is narrated from the dual first-person perspective. Plenty of twists and turns, suspense, and a cliffhanger at the end of the story will make you longing for the next book in the series. The loyalty the four boys have for each other and the bond is everything. Besides the romance, there is also suspense, mystery, violence, and murder.
Trick Me Twice is the first book in Alstone High series, first published in 2020. It’s a story full of sexiness, antsy, and wild moments. It’s a high school bully romance novel, a subtrope of enemies to loves where one lead character (mainly male) bullies the other protagonist (usually female), but in the end, the two end up falling in love.
Carter, the head of his school soccer team and circle of friends, rules the school. We have Raine, who makes Carter so mad as he cannot stand this perfect, shy girl who is also his neighbor. During Halloween, he discovers that the shy girl has a devilish side too, and now Raine wants to run, but she has nowhere to seek refuge. Becca Steele does a fantastic job of creating strong and resilient alphas and heroines.
Carter is a sweet blend of wicked, charming, intense, untouchable, and sexy in his appearance. He, alongside his friends Xavier and Kian, are known as the “Three Kings of Alstone High.” While they may be boys in high school, their demeanor clearly shows they are all men. The heroine is a breath of fresh air. She is your normal, good, shy, introverted girl with only one friend, Lena. Reine’s friend tries to pull her out of her shell to live life. For instance, she takes her to a county event dubbed Fright Night, where she encounters three men dressed in black, and right away, Raine knows she is in trouble. Carter and Raine have so much push and pull between them, and their chemistry is sizzling hot. There is plenty of witty banter between them and steamy moments, some heartbreak, angst, and suspense spiced into the story too.
Raine is an easy-to-connect and relatable character. Seeing the world through her perspective and watching her grow and discover the sass and fire deep inside her is fascinating. Becca Steele gives the reader everything a high school romance deserves in Trick Me Twice.
