An American author hailing from Las Vegas, the writer April Aasheim focuses on humorous stories of the paranormal and fantasy. Well regarded in her field for her wit and warmth, she draws from a number of different traditions in regards to her and material. Creating unique and engaging characters, she has been able to craft herself an idiosyncratic and engaging voice within the industry. Using a lot of stories and people from her past, she is always on the lookout for new and interesting ideas to feed back into her work, as she tells stories from a very human and real level.
Early and Personal Life
Growing up in what she herself describes as ‘unconventional’, she was the child of a gypsy mother as her and her parents traveled around the south-west portion of the United States. Taking in a lot during her formative years, she would later put a lot of her experiences back into her writing material as an author. This would also help to inform her material, creating a style that would become entirely unique to her in the years to come. Understanding her past has been her greatest strength as a writer, as she has allowed it become a part of who she is as a writer, informing not only her material, but her sense of humor as well.
Harnessing a passion for both reading and writing from an early age, she would hone and refine her skills as a writer throughout the years. Visiting the carnival on numerous occasion with her parents growing up, this would allow her to build a singular voice and presence on the literary scene. It would also allow her to continue returning to her love of literature throughout her education as well, as she articulated herself through her work. Not only building a repartee of funny and engaging characters, she would also create a writing style that would be compelling and fun too.
Learning other such skills as knowing how to read Tarot Cards, along with living in an abandoned miner’s shack, she had a wide range of experiences. This then allowed her to write far more colorfully, injecting character and personality into her writing unlike any other. It was during her childhood that she would also spend some time travelling with the carnival as well, a time that allowed her to see a number of strange and wonderful characters.
Still writing to this very day, she still has a lot more to come yet, as she currently now writes full-time for a living. Living in Oregon for the last decade, she is happily married with children, as she also writes short-stories for her own personal blog. This is something that will continue on into the foreseeable future for some time to come, as her writing career grows from strength-to-strength.
Writing Career
Bringing out her first book in 2012, the author April Aasheim has come a long way since then, with a whole host of series and franchises. Releasing the stand-alone title ‘The Universe is a Very Big Place’, she made her initial debut on to the literary scene with what was essentially a quirky and idiosyncratic take on the romantic-comedy genre. Making it all her own she was able to draw in readers with her endearing story, setting up what was to be a highly successful and interesting writing career.
Knowing her audience and who she’s writing for, Aasheim is very much a true master of her craft, with a highly articulate and original voice. This is something many readers worldwide have also come to appreciate over the years as well, whether it be character driven romantic-comedies, or fantasy and paranormal stories. With a lot more to come yet this doesn’t appear to be stopping any time soon either, as she is all set to continue on into the foreseeable future for many years to come.
The Curse of the Dark Root: Part One
Marking the first part of a two part story, this title would also make up the third title in the ongoing ‘The Daughters of the Dark Root’ series of novels. Initially released on the 14th of June in 2015, this was first published through the ‘Dark Root Press’ publishing label to much acclaim. With many of the characters firmly established it would also work at building up a new story in this particular universe with all its dramatic tension as well.
Starting out with Maggie as its leading protagonist, it sees her finding herself with a malicious curse placed upon her life. There are a set of memories that she has kept within some crystal globes and, in revealing these, she may be able to save the life of her yet to be born child. Holding the secrets to the Dark Root’s mysterious past, they alone show who she really is and where her destiny truly lies. Will she give up the memories? Can she save her unborn child? What will become of the curse of the Dark Root?
The Universe Is a Very Big Place
Originally published through the Dark Root Press publishing label once again, this was first released back in 2012. Brought out on the 29th of July, this would mark a stand-alone book for a younger oriented for a somewhat different market. Following a fairly quirky narrative, this made for an interesting and engaging story that drew the reader with gentle charm and warm wit.
Wanting to live a life of normalcy the young Spring Ryan has always hoped of escaping the carnival life and fall in love. That’s going to be a bit harder than she first expected, though, as the man she thought to be the love of her life, Trevor Donnelly, has suddenly vanished without a trace. On top of that her mother, an avowed lifelong nudist, has just decided to move in, plus her boss wants her to go out and promote abstinence dressed as a life-sized human condom. Will she ever get the normalcy she so craves? Can she ever find her one true love? How will she ever come to terms with the fact that the universe is a very big place?
