It was an enjoyable month for me reading wise. I read quite a few books that I really enjoyed. Some not so much but that’s okay.
Missing in Flight by Audrey J. Cole: A thriller about a woman who is on a plane with her baby, and her baby goes missing. Then the question is – was the baby ever really there? Audrey did a good job with making you suspicious of many people etc. But there was a fair bit of suspension of disbelief required, and it just got too much at the end for me.
The Brethren by Johh Grisham:I got chatting with a friend about older Grisham books we hadn’t read, and this was one of them. I really enjoyed reading it – it felt like I traveled back in time to when I was a teacher, binging one Grisham after the other.
A bit different from his usual fare but I really enjoyed it and if you’re a Grisham fan, it’s well worth reading.
Split Second by Douglas E. Richards: I’ve only read one book by him previously which is “Portals”. I loved this one. It’s about someone who finds a way to travel back in time but only by a split second. Which may not seem like much but when two large groups are willing to kill to find out how he is able to do it – well, it means a lot to some people!
My only complaint would be he spent a LOT of time explaining time travel to the reader via the characters, and his concept of it. There was one part where it felt like 20 different examples were given. I was reading it and thinking “I get it! time to move on”. I could tell reading the afterword that was something that weighed heavily on him. Either way – superb book and I’ve started the sequel.
Lock Every Door by Riley Sager: Very enjoyable thriller that I listened to. Third book I have listened to by Riley, possibly the best so far. The plot started to stray in a direction I didn’t like late on, but thankfully it reeled itself in.
For You and Only You by Caroline Kepnes: Fourth and final (so far) book in the “You” series by Caroline. I’ve loved the last three but this one felt unnecessary. Narration was excellent as usual but I think it’s time for this series to be done with.
