Anne Bennett is an English author of fiction. She was born in 1949 in Birmingham. She grew up as the daughter of her immigrant parents, who were Irish Roman Catholic. Bennett was raised in a close community and was brought up to honor her heritage. Today, she has four children and several grandchildren.

Bennett was not always a full-time writer. Before she was an author, she was employed as a teacher working in schools near Birmingham. However, when she got into an accident she left teaching. She moved to the area of North Wales. At this time she decided to pursue something that she had always enjoyed and began to write in earnest.

She is the author of the Sullivan Family Saga series of fictional novels. The novels are in the historical fiction genre as they are set in the area of Birmingham during the time of WWI. As the country braces for the Blitz, the main characters of the stories must struggle to beat the odds– and survive the deadly challenges that come with wartime.

A Sister’s Promise is the debut novel in Anne Bennett’s Sullivan Family Saga. If you love novels that take you back in time, you definitely should check this book out! The story of a sister and her little brother being separated by a tragedy will be sure to tug at your heartstrings. She will do anything– even face the Blitz itself– to find him again and bring him safely home.

When Molly’s mother is caught in a horrible accident that kills her as a result, her life will never be the same again. Molly and her brother Kevin suddenly find that they have no parents to take care of them. They do have a grandfather that they are very close to that wants to take them in. He lives in Birmingham and they would have a nice life there.

That is not to be the case, however, as authorities choose for Molly to live with her grandmother n her mother’s side. She lives on a farm located in Donegal, so they send her off to live with her without her little brother. Little does anyone know that Biddy Sullivan is a mean old woman who is bitter and holds onto grudges.

The two siblings are split up by a tragedy that none of them ever saw coming. Now they are not only without their mother, but without each other. Kevin was just ten years old when he was separated from his sister by the authorities, who wrongly thought that it would be the best thing for them to do. When she learns that her grandfather has passed away, she immediately thinks of her brother.

What happened of Kevin after they were separated all those years ago? Did he go to live with their grandfather, or did something else happen to him? Molly doesn’t want to stay in the country. Even though she’s inexperienced in the ways of the world, she wants to find her brother. Even though war has broken out in the country, Molly knows that she will let nothing stand in the way of getting to her sibling and finding him.

She has no idea how risky it will be. With war gearing up into full swing, the journey will be full of peril. But Molly cannot rest until she finds out what happened to her brother– and if he’s even alive. Will she be successful in her quest or will it end in injury or heartbreak? You are going to have to pick up this engaging first of the series by Anne Bennett to find out for yourself!

A Daughter’s Secret is the second novel in Bennett’s acclaimed Sullivan Family series. This book in set in Birmingham in wartime. If you loved the first installment in this historical fiction series, you will love the sequel. This saga of separation and loss as well as hope will move you and have you turning the pages to find out what happens.

This story is a bit different from the first one but still is a tale of what happens when we encounter challenges in life and how different people respond to them. When Tom finds his older sister crying near their farm in a lane alone, he doesn’t know what to make of it at first. She is just fifteen years old and drunk. He finds out that she was taken advantage of by her dancing teacher and now she has been abandoned by him.

This would already be bad enough, but things get worse when it is discovered that Agnes Sullivan is pregnant. As a result, she is made to leave home for some time through the veil of shame that has descended upon her. Tom isn’t even a teenager, but he is angered at what has happened. He vows revenge and decides that the man who did this will pay.

Meanwhile, Agnes has moved to Birmingham to what is supposed to be a safe place to rest and live for some time. However, the safe haven that she thought she would be coming to is much too dangerous to consider staying at. Agnes is pregnant and doesn’t have another place to stay.

Things are not looking too good. But then a random person that she never would have given the time of day of before she got pregnant offers her the aid that she needs, it’s like an angel has come through for her in the nick of time. Even though things are starting to slowly turn around, the arrival of the first World War may be enough to dash her hopes of a peaceful and happy and healthy future in two.

Can Agnes find a place that is safe enough to stay and avoid the perils of war? Will her brother follow through with his mission to take the dance teacher down for good in punishment for what he has done? You are going to have to pick up this gripping historical saga for yourself to find out!

If you enjoy the Birmingham stories, there are more books in Bennett’s Sullivan Family Saga. Check out the third novel in the series, A Mother’s Spirit, and pick up the fourth book in this series to experience all of the drama that the Sullivan clan goes through firsthand!

I just finished the book The Runaway Sisters by you, I got it from my library on Tuesday and on Friday I returned it back to the library, it was so good, I just could not put it down. I’ve read The Orphan House and am now reading The Planter’s Wife. I have a very hard time finding Ann Bennett Books; the library in my hometown finds them in various other libraries in many different States and they send them to my library; that’s the trouble I go through finding these books of Ann Bennett but it’s worth all the trouble and being able to read them. What confuses me is why the same book may have 2 different covers and 2 different titles! Are you still writing and when do you expect your newest book to be out for reading? Could you email me the whole list from beginning to end, what books you’ve written?

Hello – there are a variety of reasons that books can have a different title and it is surprisingly common. One can be different titles in different countries etc. If any of the books above have alternate titles please let me know and I can add that to them to make sure there is no confusion. I had a quick look but didn’t see any.
