The Shy Duchess
The Shy Duchess introduces us to Lady Emily Carroll, otherwise known as the ice princess. Emily was quite attractive with golden her hair and emerald eyes. However, she was also shy, which means that she spent her time hiding behind potted plants in social events. It is during such events that she hears some gentlemen talking about her. Disappointed, she rushes outside only to fall in the arms of Nicholas, the Duke of Manning. Emily and Nicholas had met before and this evening turn out to be better than both of them anticipated. After their enlightening talk, Nicholas cannot get Emily out of his mind. Should he even be considering starting a relationship with the ice princess?
Nicholas is not looking for a bride, but when an opportunity presents itself, he takes full advantage of it and enjoy a stolen kiss with Emily. Their rendezvous doesn’t go unnoticed, and to avoid a scandal, these two quickly get engaged. Nicholas still has his reservations and wonders whether Emily will be as inhibited in bed. Emily is not having an easy time either, and on their wedding night, she is sure that Nicholas wants nothing else but to uncover the secret she had been hiding for far too long. Thankfully, the wedding goes well, and Emil discovers that Nicholas has his secrets too.
This is a cozy, non-offensive love story. Emily is a lovable character, and once she gets married, things between her and her husband heat up pretty quickly. Nicholas discovers the simmering passion in Emily while the ice princess finally finds someone she can easily talk to. Their love story is heartwarming, and it is amazing how they grow from liking each other to having deep romantic feelings. Nicholas is a true gentleman, an upstanding hero, and a proper Duke. Just like Emily, he had been lonely for a long time, and their chance meeting seemed like an answered prayer for them both.
The Shy Duchess is a sweet story with a hero and heroine you are sure to love. Even though there is no tension throughout the story, the author includes some heat so you will not have any dull moments. Emily’s shyness is cute, and it is amazing how much she is willing to do to make her family happy. On the other hand, Nicholas is a good man who becomes devoted to Emily once he marries her. The story mostly focuses on Nicholas and Emily, and everything from the storyline to the plot makes this a perfect choice for a light read.
To Catch a Rogue
To Catch a Rogue comes first in The Chase Muses series. This book introduces us to the Chase family and its exceptional three daughters. Calliope, Thalia, and Clio are three of the aristocratic Chase women highly respected for their education and taste when it comes to the finer things in life. Their father brought the girls up, and somehow, he passed his great love for Greek Mythology to his daughters. In this book, McCabe mostly focuses on Calliope, the eldest of the Case sisters. Calliope is the most reserved of the three girls, but her interest in Greek antiques is outstanding. When the issue of the lily thief comes up, Calliope decides to investigate and take the necessary steps to stop it.
It turns out that a notorious thief had been getting in and out of people’s homes in London only to steal paintings and statues. A good number of the people who had reported these break-ins were friends to the Chase family. The strangest thing is that in every home the Lily Thief stole from, he left a lily as his mailing address. He is also crafty in his dealings, and if it weren’t for the missing art pieces, it would be hard to tell he was ever there. With nothing but a determination to ensure that the thief is stopped, Calliope sets on a dangerous mission. She has a suspect in mind, and Lord Westwood seems very keen to help her catch the thief.
Calliope cannot shake the feeling that Cameron the Early of Westwood is the thief she is looking for. The man seems a little cagey, and she cannot understand his interest in the case. However, when Cameron kisses Calliope, her search for the thief turns into a chase for romance. This book explains why the Chase women act the way they do before introducing the art thief storyline. The author’s style is outstanding, and once you get into the story, you will be spellbound. You will enjoy the thrilling hunt for the artifacts and the mystery and intrigue surrounding the Lily Thief. Will Calliope manage to catch the thief? What happens between her and Cameron?
To Catch a Rogue is a well-written book filled with mystery, intrigue, muses, and romance. The pacing is great, and it is amazing what the author has done with developing the characters. A Greek theme is infused throughout the story giving it quite an edge. Understandably, Calliope suspects that Cameron is the thief, given his drive to return the Greek artifacts owned by his family to their home country. However, the two unlikely partners eventually catch the thief who had an Agenda similar to Cameron. The book is mostly funny, and there are a few interesting twists that you will not see coming.
