Her hope is to invite the reader in and sit with them for some time and even draw closer to Jesus together as she makes homes for her revelations and stories. She has many stories inside her, such as one set in the mountains in the early 1900’s, or different characters that come out from an estate in the forest to experience the city of San Francisco at the turn of the century.
Whose Waves These Are is a 2019 novel from Amanda Dykes. If you have been looking for an interesting romance that links two different time frames, then you have come to the right place!
A fisherman going through stages of grief decides to put in a poem to the local newspaper in the wake following World War II. The poem is a cry for purpose, for hope, and for rocks. He puts the message out that if you send him a rock that represents the person that was lost, he will in turn build something life giving.
The poem was just something innocent that he sent in, but news of it spreads quicker and even farther than he ever could have thought. He didn’t intend to do so, but his simple words are able to reach people. Tons of rocks come to the tiny town on the Maine coast. Robert Bliss decides that it’s time to get to work building, but it all comes to a sudden stop when a sudden tragedy hits.
Many decades later, a woman named Annie Sawyer is suddenly called back to Ansel-by-the-Sea. The reason is that her Great-Uncle Robert needs some help. He has a great refuge for her when she was young, during one of the most difficult summers of her life. The last thing that she thought was that she was going to find a wall of boxes hidden away in his home.
Then Annie recalls stone ruins close by on an island, and she suddenly gets curious. She has the soul of an anthropologist, and she’s set out to get to the bottom of things and find some answers. In order to do so, she decides to join up with a harbor postman, a man who is as handsome as he is mysterious.
All of the hopes that she had for being able to heal the chasm that has been gaping in her family for decades seem to be urging her towards the ruins. Could it be that it holds the answers that she had been hoping that she would find?
However, Robert is getting steadily more ill. Annie is doing all that she can to try and find the answers that she needs, fighting against time, something that will always be an obstacle no matter what. Can she accomplish what she wants, or is it destined to elude her? Read this book from Amanda Dykes to find out!
