Harley began the journey to eternal reward just on January, 1912 just after dinner. The weather was very cold with a threat of snow. Even-tough he made to the outhouse; he actually can’t remember if he accomplished his business inside or not. He only knows that there was a nice sized stash of moon shining in the barn. After retrieving the jar, he realized that he was heading towards the hoods instead of the house.

Because of not quite getting his feet in the right direction, he was in a bad mood. He heard voices murmuring when he was near the trees. After thinking about this, he remained silent.

Harley’s irritation turns to anger when he recognized the voice of his 19th year old son, john lee. What made Harley mad is the son’s rebellion. John lee was assigned the duty of slopping the hogs then. But, it occurred to his father that he had not seen the son in the barn. When he realized that john lee was talking to him, he staggered towards the voices and stopped. John lee was with tucker girl.

It seemed that there was many tucker girls in Okmulgee and Muskogee County who were married to everyone. Consequently, it owned every business in the area and held every 3rd office in the area. At that moment, he took a swipe at john lee at his right hand and missed. However, he was able to grab phoebe’s arm with his left. She was almost twisted away but her alarm gave her strength. Luckily, Harley held and jerk the girl towards him. Consequently, she stumbled and fell on her knees. When that incident occurred, Harley heard that john lee was yelling at him. His son yells at him lately. However, the tone of his voice was different.

Unlike the way he does, john lee’s son sounded angrily and he was neither afraid nor desperate. The curiosity of Harley raised his fury and he looked at his son. “Leave her daddy,” john lee ordered. “Son, you should have obeyed my order when I told you to leave this girl,” was the reply from his father. The quarrels turned into war when john lee bunched his father on the jaw.

At that instant, the inexplicable wonder knocked every thought of john lee. This is because the father has been abusing the boy for 19 years. But, he has never retaliated.

The father left off phoebe’s arm and grabs something from the ground. This might have been a rock, a stubby tree or a cold. He was not sure. Through the red haze which glazed his view, Harley swung aiming as well as he could. This resulted in john lee being flung, facing down on the leaf litter and remained still.

As any sensible girl could have done, john’s girl-friend screamed, but did not run away. Harley sized phoebe by her shoulders and turned on him. Harley was very much aware that she was making a very high pitch sound. Even though, it has a partly outrage and fear. Phoebe was fighting him. When she attempted to jerk out of his grip, Harley fell down with her as he was not steady enough in keeping his feet. The father fell down on the girl heavily like a sack of potatoes. This made her breath moved out of her ear. His father thought the girl was crying and struggling under him and he saw his son was sitting up and bracing himself unsteadily having his hand on the ground. Harley heard his boy say something that he did not understand. The voice made his father to turn his head enough to look at his son who was heading on him. John lee look for something in the pocket of his overall.
