An American author and bibliophile, the novelist AdriAnne Strickland has always had a strong passion for both reading and writing, something she’s held from an early age. This is a passion which has leaped off the page for numerous readers as well, with a vast audience worldwide, with her words resonating with readers of all varieties and backgrounds. Knowing and understanding her craft at the most fundamental level right down to the smallest details, she is clearly an expert at combining character and narrative, creating a story that is both engaging and highly compelling in equal measure. Focusing herself on the genres of science-fiction and fantasy, she mostly aims her work at a Young Adult audience, ensuring she stands out from the rest as she does so. With a unique style and perspective, she has been able to give her readers something new and interesting, which goes some way towards explaining why she has gone on to become one of the most lauded figures currently working within her field to date. Creating two series so far, she has created the ‘Words Made Flesh’ and the ‘Shadow’ series, along with the ‘Quest for Ironbark’ series for younger readers as well. With a lot more to come in the future, she doesn’t seem to be showing signs of stopping anytime soon, as her writing career grows from strength-to-strength from some time yet.

Early and Personal Life

Growing up with a clear love of both reading and writing, the writer to be AdriAnne Strickland grew up with a strong love of both reading and writing. This would be something that she would continue to pursue throughout her life, creating stories and characters that would come to be appreciated by her many readers worldwide. Attending Reed College based in Portland, Oregon, she would major in English Literature and Creative writing, both of which would allow her to pursue her career as a writer.

Traveling across places such as Asia, Africa and Europe, she would take in a whole range of different sights, giving her a unique perspective for her work. This would allow her to broaden her horizons, as she would travel with her partner and husband Lukkas, before they both settled down in Alaska where they live to this present day. Continuing to write at a regular and ever consistent pace, she is always on the lookout for new and exciting ideas with which to form the basis of her next novel, something which she will continue to do for some time to come.

Writing Career

The first novel that AdriAnne Strickland would bring out would be called ‘Wordless’, which she would release in 2014, and this would set-up her ‘Words Made Flesh’ series of novels. Following this series she would also commence her ‘Quest for Gray Ironbark’ series in 2015, followed by her ‘Shadow’ series in 2017, which she would write with the author Michael Miller. Mainly focusing on the Young Adult demographic, she would come to know and understand herself as an author extremely well.

Putting her experiences back into her work, it is clear that she is an author with a vast imagination, which can be seen reflected within both the breadth and the scope of her novels. Tackling a whole range of different themes, it’s easy to see why so many have taken to her work, with the critics also singing her praises as well, winning various awards and nominations for her efforts over the years. Not showing signs of stopping any time soon either, she looks set to carry on for some time to come, with her audience growing exponentially worldwide day-by-day.

Wordless

Brought out through the Flux publication label, this was originally released in 2014 on the 8th of August to much acclaim, it being the debut novel from AdriAnne Strickland as a full-time author. Setting up the ‘Words Made Flesh’ series for the first time too, it would establish the franchise, as well as her career as a writer of fantasy fiction. Introducing all the characters of the series it managed to to bring readers into a new and exciting world, whilst also keeping them guessing the mysteries posed throughout, right until the very last page, making for an extremely compelling read.

Taking place in Eden City, this sees the character of Tavin Barnes as a member of the ‘illiterate class’, who a powerless group of people who have been subjugated by those above them. In the ruling classes there are the ‘Words’, who use the power of their words to command the world around them, a power which was bestowed upon them by the gods, thus ensuring that they are the ruling elite. One day the seventeen-year-old Tavin Barnes is conducting a trash run when Khaya, a beautiful young girl and a Word, falls into his path and she needs his help. Why does she need help from him though? What could she possibly want? What could he possibly offer to the Wordless?

Shadow Call

This time released through the ‘Delacorte Press’ publishing label, this would be the second part in the ‘Kaitan Chronicles’ series of novels, with it following on directly from the previous title. Published in 2018 on the 17th of April, it would give readers the next thrilling installment of the series, whilst also providing plenty of twists and turns along the way. It would also build upon the world as well, taking not just the concept forwards, but the setting as well, along with the characters who are developed throughout too, giving their arcs a logical and satisfying sense of progression.

Harboring none other than the now exiled Prince Nevarian Dracorte, Qole is the youngest ever star-ship captain to ever have come from her home-world of Alaxak. Wanting to stay with her, the prince finds himself conflicted, as he looks to wrest control of the throne and regain power, whilst overcoming the charges of murder placed against him. Leading a rebellion, Qole must fight against the forces that seek to subjugate her and her people, using the power that has been gifted to her to help them. Will she succeed? Can Prince Nev regain the throne? Who will answer the Shadow Call?
