Abi Elphinstone
Abi Elphinstone was born in the United Kingdom on June 24, 1984. She grew up in Scotland where she spent her weekends hiding in tree houses, building dens in the woods, jumping into icy rivers, and running wild across highland glens. School came as a bit of a surprise (with lots of ‘listening’ and ‘being inside’) but she did really enjoy English lessons.

She loved stories (writing them, reading them, or listening to them), and it was back then that she found worlds behind wardrobes, teachers named Trunchbull, and shape shifting demons.

Abi got through school, despite being branded as ‘prone to spasmodic outbursts of silliness’ and ‘unteachable’ by her headteacher. After getting an English degree at Bristol University and several years working as an English teacher in London, Africa, and Berkshire, she’s now returned to building dens and hiding in treehouses, sometimes in real life, but mainly in her books.

When Abi is not busy writing in her shed at the bottom of the garden, she is off having her own adventures around the world: abseiling into jungle caves, hang-gliding over Rio de Janeiro, snowmobiling over Icelandic glaciers, and motorbiking through Burma. She keeps a catapult in her handbag, and if she could have a demon, it would be a wildcat with an attitude.

“The Dreamsnatcher” is the first novel in the “Dreamsnatcher” series and was released in 2015. Moll Pecksniff (twelve years old) wakes up one night out in the middle of the forest, having been lured there by this recurring nightmare, the one with the rattles, masks, and drums. The Dreamsnatcher is waiting for her. He’s already taken away her dreams, and now he wants her life. Because Moll is way more important than she knows.

The Oracle Bones foretold that she and Gryff, this wildcat that’s always been by her side, are the only ones that are able to fight back against the Dreamsnatcher’s dark magic. All of a sudden, it’s all at stake, and Moll gets drawn into this world filled with adventure, secrets, and magic.

“Sky Song” is the first stand alone novel and was released in 2018. In the snowy kingdom that is Erkenwald, whales glide between icebergs, polar bears roam on the glaciers, and wolves hunt on the tundra. However the people of this land are not that easy to find, since Erkenwald is ruled by this evil Ice Queen and the tribes have to remain hidden or risk becoming her prisoners at Winterfang Palace.

Join Eska, this girl that breaks out of a cursed music box, and Flint, a boy whose own inventions change the entire fate of Erkenwald forever, while they journey out to the Never Cliffs and beyond in search of this almost forgotten and ancient song with the power to force the Ice Queen back.

This is a story about an inventor, an eagle huntress, and an organ made out of icicles. However it’s also a tale about belonging, even at the far reaches of our world.

“Casper Tock and the Everdark Wings” is the first novel in the “Unmapped Chronicles” series and was released in 2019. Casper Tock is allergic to adventures and hates risks. So it comes as a pretty nasty shock to him this one day when he hides from bullies in this ancient grandfather clock, and winds up finding this whole world inside.

Casper learns that this sky kingdom of Rumblestar is just one of the four Unmapped Kingdoms that’s in charge of controlling the weather in Casper’s own world. What is more, Casper’s now stuck in Rumblestar, and the one person there that does not believe he’s a demon spy is this strange girl called Utterly, who is allergic to behaving and hates rules.

All that Casper really wants is to find his way back home, however Rumblestar is in trouble. This evil harpy named Morg is attempting to steal the magic of the Unmapped Kingdoms. And should these kingdoms fall, Casper’s world is going to be destroyed too.

Together, with Utterly and Arlo (her miniature dragon) Casper embarks on this quest filled with storm ogres, cloud giants, and drizzle hags. Can he, Arlo, and Utterly (the unlikeliest of heroes) save both of their worlds from Morg’s clutches?

“Saving Neverland” is the second stand alone novel and was released in 2023. Number 14 Darlington Road looks like it’s a totally ordinary townhouse, at least on first glance, however magic is good at hiding, when it’s waiting for the right person to find it.

Martha Pennydrop is ten, and is desperate to grow up. However growing up is a tricky business. It means turning your back on your own imagination, magic, and fun, since these are the things that led to the Terrible Day when something awful happened to Scruff (Martha’s little brother) which would’ve been all her fault.

However Scruff and Martha find this drawer filled with mysterious gold dust in the bedroom of their brand new house, along with this window that seems to be impossible to close, it is the beginning of an incredible adventure off to a magical world: Neverland. The Pennyddrop’s new home once belonged to some other family (the Darlings), who used to visit this world themselves. Now Peter Pan’s returned, and is in need of their help. Neverland’s in the icy grasp of some horrible curse, which Captain Hook cast long ago. Scruff and Martha are the only ones able to save it.

An excited Scruff and a reluctant Martha get swept off to Neverland and into the company of the Lost Kids. However once Scruff gets kidnapped, Martha has to rediscover all the magic, imagination, and belief she’s buried deep within herself for so long, in order to save him, and Neverland itself.

“Ember Spark and the Thunder of Dragons” is the first novel in the “Ember Spark” series and was released in 2024. A magical new story full of wonder, adventure, and edge-of-your-seat excitement, set in this world of magical maladies and daring dragons.

Rusty Fizzbang, a vet to magical beasts, needs an apprentice. Ember Spark, who is looking for adventure, is his most recent recruit, and together with Arno (an unlikely friend) she gets sent to help this baby dragon whose parents have just gone missing. However keeping magical beasts a secret is not an easy task, particularly with Jasper Hornswoggle (an arch villain) hot on their heels and keen to derail them.
