Targa is a seventeen-year-old daughter of a mermaid mother. The latter cannot return back to the sea since she has to take care of her. Following the death of her father, they found out that Targa had not inherited the mermaid gene.

The lead in the story is Georjayna Sutherland, a sixteen-year-old that hates that she has to go spend much of the summer with her aunt in Ireland. She is even more upset when she learns that her adopted cousin, who can be as nasty as a brood of vipers is going to be spending the summer there too.

The only saving grace is that she gets to get away from Liz her neglectful mother and Salford the one-horse town she lives in.

When Georjie finds out about the dark secret that Jasher has been hiding, and the things hidden by her own family, she is shocked. There is a desiccated body, a heartbroken woman that had gone missing and was never found again, and a greenhouse full of strange cocoons.

It is a dark mystery that has elements that involve powerful forces of nature as well. But it is when Georjayna begins to change in powerful and new ways that things start getting very interesting.
