A historical novelist, the author Sam Barone is an American writer who’s been prominent on the literature scene for quite some time now, with a long and extensive list under his name, as he’s known for his extreme amounts of accuracy and insight into his subject matter. Researching his subjects thoroughly beforehand, he combines both fact and fiction to an advanced level, one that has become entirely unique to him and his brand. With a major in psychology too, he’s managed to craft characters that not only offer a window into the past, but also manage to resonate with the reader on a more personal level.

Early and Personal Life

Born and raised in Queens in New York City, in the United States, the author Sam Barone was brought up in the area fostering a keen interest in both reading and writing from an early age. With a passion for literature, he would harness his skills in the written word, constantly refining and honing his craft throughout his upbringing. He’d also take inspiration from the world around him as he saw it, informing much of his material for much of the duration of his formative years.

Attending the prestigious Manhattan College, he soon graduated in 1965 with a degree in the Bachelor of Science, whilst also getting a minor in history alongside a major in psychology. Strengthening his style and his tone, he was able to give his work an academic backbone, as he continued to develop his material throughout. It also helped to give him a greater insight and depth into his themes and ideas, creating people and situations with a higher level of depth.

With a past working in the marine corps for a short period he went on to spend over thirty years in the technology industry working management and developing software. After working as the VP of International Systems, he retired in 1999, followed by a period of seven years after which he went on to publish his first book. During this time he continued to to develop his voice and refine his style and tone, constantly managing himself and his future career as a writer.

Currently living with his wife Linda, along with their two cats, he continues to write to this very day from their home in Prescott in Arizona. Winning awards and nominations for his work, he’s lauded by both critics and the general public alike, as his novels are received nationally and internationally. As more books are set to follow in the near future, it would seem that he’s not stopping anytime soon, as his career grows from strength-to-strength.

Writing Career

Bringing out his first book, ‘Dawn of Empire’, in 2007, Sam Barone made his debut onto the scene of fiction writing, with the first in his ongoing ‘Eskkar’ series. Setting up one of his most popular franchises to date, he made an impact that really had the literature world talking on his arrival. With his huge scope as a historical saga, it managed to capture a snapshot in time through its extensive researching, as well as Barone’s background knowledge in the subject matter.

Focused mostly on the Eskkar series, Barone takes a look at the bronze age, 3158 BCE, looking at the trials and tribulations of the lives of the people then. Comprised of six novels in total so far, along with two short stories, the franchise is epic in both its scope and its breadth. He has also headed into the world of science-fiction with his short novella titled ‘Jettisoned’, which shows another side to his style of writing.

Winning awards for his work, he has achieved both critical and commercial success over the course of his writing career. Reaching a global audience his novels are appreciated on a national, as well as an international scale, reaching far and wide. With more books set to be released on the horizon, this looks like a trend that’s set to continue for quite some time yet.

Empire Rising

The second novel set in the Eskkar Saga, this was originally published on the 25th of September in 2007, as it was initially brought out through the William Morrow publishing label. Following on directly from the first, it continues the story from the first, although these books weren’t actually published in the same order as their actual chronology. Following a long-running period set in the pre-BC times, it charts an extended period of the bronze age with a great degree of accuracy and insight, an insight that Sam Barone has come to be highly regarded for over the many years of his career.

This one being set in 3157 BC, it looks at the start of the Bronze Age, specifically an alliance between Korthac the outcast and the remains of his desert warriors, and Ariamus and his band of thieves. Then there’s the city of Akkad, a new and prosperous land heavily fortified by all who attempt to enter, all ruled over the by the former barbarian Eskkar and his wife Trella. With their eyes set on the prize, Korthac and Ariamus look to plunder this newfound wealth, all whilst Eskkar is out looking to boost the reputation of the city. Will Eskkar and Trella be able to hold out against the invastion? Can the beginnings of civilization stand it’s ground? What will become of an empire rising?

Jettisoned

Initially published in 2014 on the 30th of September, this was first brought out through the Eskkar Enterprises publishing label as a stand-alone novella. Branching off from his usual historical fare, this went into more science-fiction based territory, marking somewhat of a departure from Sam Barone’s usual fare as an author. Whilst it may be short, it still offers a substantial storyline that shows Barone’s talents as a writer in a different light, allowing him to flourish as a novelist and still remain true to his ideals.

Travelling long-distance from Jupiter’s moon Io is ‘The Lady Drake, a space freighter carrying an important shipment of ore aboard, but it’s going to be a journey unlike any other. With Camenson as its ruthless captain this could be the most dangerous assignment that new recruit Peter has found himself on to date. Not only that, but there’s something in the cargo that hasn’t been logged, but is priceless all the same, priceless enough that Camenson and his gang will kill for it. Will Peter be able to survive the voyage? Can he rescue fellow shipmate and med-tech Linda Grayson? What will become of them as the other crew are slowly jettisoned?

I’ve read all the eskkar saga books and l personally think they are the best l have read. I’m a great fan of David Gemmell but the Eskkar saga seems more realistic to me. I would love you to write about Eskkars final confrontation as I felt the last book did not tell the final story of Eskkars demise?
Hopefully one more fantastic Eskkar epic
    Best wishes
