Looking into a couple of the earlier books in the series, we see a tortured soul finding his way as he fights for those he loves. Jack Stratton is a six book series that takes the readers along with Jack, his internal struggles, his difficult past, and his wild present.
Our story revolves around detective Jack Stratton, a stoic, wound up, and brave war hero turned cop lives a life that is anything but dull. He was born in a whorehouse and eventually abandoned by his prostitute mother in lower class South Carolina. His childhood misfortunes take a turn for the better when he is taken in by a caring foster family. He grows close with his foster siblings and parents and finds a sense of meaning and place in the world. As he grew into a young adult he joined the armed forces and fought in the Middle Eastern conflicts. He fought alongside his foster brother, Chandler, in Iraq who was taken by the conflict. Burdened with seeing war at a young age and dealing with the side effects of PTSD, Stratton comes home to the world that is less that peaceful.
This is where we begin in the first book in the series, Girl Jacked. The title of this book and preceding books seem, almost too simple or even nonsensical, but are exemplary of Greyson’s very technical, declarative and clear style of writing. Stratton’s feelings of sadness and guilt cause him to withdraw from this family after he returns from Iraq. However, one of the other children he shared a family with, Alice, nicknamed, Replacement, shows up at his home with bad news. His foster sister Michelle, with whom he was close, is missing.
The local police believe she had run off, but Replacement does not think that is the case. There was talk that she transferred to an out of state college, but she had not contacted the family, which was unheard of. Michelle was committed to their foster family; something that Stratton was not able to do. Nevertheless, Replacement forces her quirky self into Stratton’s life, becoming his sidekick, as he looks into the disappearance of Michelle. Jack is forced to face his past transgressions and internal demons as he fights to get her back. However, he begins to uncover more than he thought he ever would.
All the while attempting to keep his job, keep his sidekick safe, and somehow hold his life together. Girl Jacked has been a huge success, many five star reviews and copies sold. It is the perfect start to a series of adventure, mystery, excitement and romance.
The first book in the series is a wildly entertaining, full of twists, deception, and lies, leading into book two, Jack Knifed. The now iconic sidekick Replacement makes a second appearance in this book, and there may even be some romance that grows between these two. Jack Stratton, our attractive cop from the home ground South Carolina town, is still dealing with his checkered past. He wakes up with nightmares and in this book of the series, still must seek out closure, to find peace.
“Why do I keep doing this…thinking about her? It was so long ago, but I can’t get what happened out of my head…I’m driving in circles, caught in some loop I can’t break out of” Jack demonstrates to us early in this book, his deep-seeded troubles and sets the stage for more of this throughout. However, despite all of this his main mission is to solve a 27-year-old murder in Hope Falls that was never uncovered. This was a murder that took place before he was born – the people of the town had not even thought to investigate it until Stratton rolls through town.
As we go through the series, Jack has touched and go romantic relationships, but it is not until the third book that, that becomes a focal point. He goes on a mission to find an old girlfriend who is known to be missing, and he knows is tied up with some unsavory, criminal activity. She was an old flame that he still has a great desire to protect from harm. He seems to be straying even farther from a consistent path and puts himself on the line habitually as he goes through his raucous journey.
Greyson was inspired to write this character as a tortured war hero, from his grandfather, who was a decorated World War I soldier. His grandfather also told him of a good friend he had in the war, who was a brave fighter pilot. The series that has gained more than half a million readers, explores a raw character who is relatable yet, somehow also fantastical. Greyson writes a story that also is exhibiting a very real threat to many wartime veterans – PTSD. Much of Stratton’s life is molded by his experiences overseas, and the trauma of losing someone in such a conflict. This kind of trauma is misunderstood, by much of the world and is difficult to treat, and much like Mr. Jack Stratton, veterans deal with these repercussions every day.
Greyson lives in Massachusetts with his wife Katherine and their two kids, Laura and Christopher. He has a degree in Theatre, communication, and computer science; all interesting paths that lead him to create the life of Jack Stratton. As body counts rise, Jack discovers what is important, who he is, and murders seem to be a most common thread – we experience everything that is the Jack Stratton series.

So sorry, but I quickly terminated reading the Jack
Stratton series when “Alice” appeared in them.
I am an Educated retired female medical mal attorney, but simply abhor the”Alice” character.I really tried, but she is a totally egotistical unlikable know it all character. character.
So sorry, but you asked for feed back.
