In the fiction-writing world, David Levithan is a renowned legend. His achievements are numerous despite his controversial writings. Most of his works relate to the realities of life, but brings in some fictional characters in place. As always, with fiction comes with imaginative world and some humorous scenes, this has seen some of his works rating as comedies.

Biography

David was born in the early 70s, in New Jersey, USA. His early age had little published writings, maybe because he was unexposed at that time. During his late teenage years, he enrolled to a sponsored course at Brown University. This is where he sharpened his English skills by studying English and Political Science. Scholastic Corporation, the sponsors, catered for the completion of his course.

It is after this course that he started his authoring journey. Over the past decade, Davis has increased his popularity in with many controversial books. His openness in gays was also another factor that made his works to be famous globally. However, even with the same-sex orientation, his talent and creativity in writing is fantastic.

In addition to authoring and editing, he founded PUSH Imprint. From this firm, David nurtures young talents in the editing world. His main aim is to help realize the writing talent in the subject, and then he instills confidence and motivation into the subject. With over ten years in this nature of service, he has grown the firm and nurtured many upcoming writers.

David Levithan’s works

Levithan has been writing for many years, but some of his works never got publications. From short poems to some short fictional stories, he has some dominance in this section. His main form of writing is appreciating the diversity of nature and men, in an effort to create a united society. He has had some collaboration too; with great authors, that has earned him part of his many awards.

His first published work was in 2003, Boy Meets Boy, which represented a teenage life. He attributes the book to the many years he had been with his friends, and he wanted to show some appreciation on that Valentine. The novel, being his gate-opener, highlighted the homosexuality life of modern teens, being propagation from the parents or the present elders.

With this breakthrough, he ventured into his second book, The Realm of Possibility. This fictional book relates the imaginary world to the real world of possibilities. It being a teenage life book, it expounds on the endless possibilities of teens, from different backgrounds, interacting in the same school. Most of the phrases in this book are poetic, which adds up to the creative skills that David Levithan has.

Later in the years, he released a brother-relationship novel called, Are We There Yet? From this novel, David highlights the challenges of visiting a very new world. In this world, everything seems strange and hard, but the two brothers have to survive. In an interview, he confessed that the insights of the story are true-life, but the experiences and encounters are fictional. This makes the scenarios in the novel full of wonder and suspense.

His latest novel was released in late 2013, Two Boys Kissing. Form the title, the novel describes the gay awareness in terms of societal calamities such as AIDS. He based the ideology of the story on the two famous NJ boys who shook the world for having the longest kiss ever. In this novel, he describes the obstacles that gay teens would face and the consequences of their decisions.

David Levithan’s collaborations

His first collaborative work was with Rachel Cohn, a female author. The basis of the novel was to show the love perspectives, from the masculine and feminine points of view. Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist was a summer novel that showed the diversity of humans, based on gender differences. Later, he Levithan participated in a collaborated Anthology with Billy Merrell, the Full Spectrum. The writing involved incorporation of same-sex relationship, in the American lifestyle.

Naomi and Elly’s No Kiss List was another collaborative novel with Rachel. From the storyline, the friendship between a gay boy and a heterosexual girl has lots of drama to show. Of course, it would be expected that any of their encounters would leave the other, unsatisfied. The novel received many positive reviews from the readers, due to the diversity of ideas from the two authors.

Another iconic collaboration is the Dash and Lily’s Book of Dress. Based on the New York City urban life, the story highlights the encounters of the town life and relationships. The fun and the drinking sprees affect the couples in many ways, some positive and others negative. David brings in the aspect of harmonization of cultures thanks to the metropolitan life in towns.

Other collaborative works include the Likely Story, All That Glitters and Red Carpet Riot with David Ozanich and Chris Van Etten. It is a common observation that most of the collaborations served to bring another perspective in the gay world. In addition, he brings in the fictional aspect that adds up to the many possibilities in the real world, especially the humanity society.

Short writings

Other than the novel writings, David Levithan has many short publications under his name. Most of the short stories revolve around the home and family affairs, for instance the Alumni Interview and How They Met and Other stories. Others include the Good Girls, A Word From the Nearly Distant Past and Quiz Bowl Antichrist.

In his career in the Brown University, he has had many anthropological writings. The Push initiative is also another channel he uses to expose his writing ability. Although his initial style targeted the young in a fictional way, he has recently begun adult novels. The Lovers Dictionary is among the adult stories that highlight the adult life and their relationships. He describes his capability in writing as spontaneous, especially when creativity and imagination is the case.
