It was published in the year 2006 by the Scribner publication. The plot depicts Lucie Montgomery and Eli Montgomery in the lead roles and is set in Atoka, Virginia, the United States. As the novel begins, Lucie Montgomery receives a call from her brother. Eli, who tells her that their father has been killed in an accident and asks her to come to France. The accident took place during a hunting event on the 500 acre vineyard of the Montgomery family in Virginia. When Eli tells Lucie that he has already made the funeral arrangements before calling her, she argues with him for acting in such a haste. Lucie had not been to her home for the past two years. She was involved in an accident the last time she was there and became disabled. On reaching home, Lucie finds that her family’s elegant vineyard and winery has been turned into a run-down and shabby business. Eli, who is under a lot of debts, tries to persuade Lucie and his younger sister named Mia to sell the estate and clear all their dues. They will be left with enough money to live their lives peacefully. But, Lucie does not approve of Eli’s ideas. At the time of the funeral, a business partner and Lucie’s godfather named Fitz tells her that her father had not died in an accident. In fact, he was murdered so that the vineyard could be sold. Lucie realizes that she might be the next target of the killers because of resisting the sale of the estate. She begins to investigate the matter on her own and find the murderer from a list of full of probable suspects. Author Crosby has written the book with numerous fascinating details related to the science behind winemaking.

Due to this, an old grave is unearthed and the dead man is found to be one of former associates of the family business of Lucie’s father. As a result, the people of the town begin to think that Leland Mongomery was a murderer. As the evidences continue to pile up, Lucie decides to prove that her father was innocent by investigating in her own way. At the same time, she learns that her winemaker, Quinn Santori has been accused of molesting the migrant workers of the vineyard. When Lucie gives permission to re-enact the Civil War on her farm, one of the re-enactors gets shot with a real bullet. Now, everyone begins to wonder whether it was a murder attempt or an accident. In the end, it becomes a difficult and tiring job for Lucie to find the reality behind the deaths on her farm.
