Beatriz Williams is a USA Today, New York Times and International Bestselling Author. She graduated from Stanford University for her undergrad, and has a Master of Business Administration degree from Columbia.
Before becoming a full-time author, Williams worked and lived in London and New York, where she worked as a communication strategy specialist. It was at these jobs that she concealed her first literary works on company laptops. Williams eventually left this career track to focus more on her writing. She now resides close to the Connecticut shore with her husband and their four children.
She enjoys visiting her in-laws in Old Lyme, which is on Long Island Sound and boasts several stunning beaches as well as a traditional New England town center. Her mother-in-law’s family has also spent many summers in Sea Bright at the northern tip of the New Jersey Shore, and this is now a favorite for Williams and her family. No matter which beach she is at along the coast, Williams enjoys playing will all the kids in the family and splashing in the ocean, followed by cocktails on the boardwalk as the setting sun and rolling waves move in.
Williams’ novels take place in different time periods, ranging from the 1910s up through the 1960s. Beatriz can’t recall why she had the idea to transform Richard Strauss’ opera “Der Rosenkavalier” into a novel, but she was fascinated with the character Marchallin so it happened effortlessly. Williams chose to set the novel, titled “A Certain Age”, in 1920s New York, and the tale encompasses a lot of themes: old and new, sensitive and brutal, new money versus old money.
The novel is witty, full of glamour, and perfectly captures the Jazz Age: a period of ushering in “modern” society with a gritty yet gorgeous undertone. Williams’ enthusiasm about history combined with her exceptional writing skills put the reader in the character’s shoes, feeling their every emotion and thinking their every thought.
Williams wrote several books taking place in the Jazz Age, and she superbly captures life in the Roaring ’20s, full of love and scandal in New York Modern Society. “A Certain Age”, “The Wicked City”, and “Cocoa Beach” are unmissable works filled with luxury, impressive characters, and sophisticated style. Humor and titillating twists make these novels unable to be put down.
In her novel “A Hundred Summers”, Williams’ character Lily Dane is an NYC socialite who is back with her family in the idyllic Rhode Island beachfront neighborhood of Seaview.
Recently heartbroken, Lily Dane is anticipating a relaxing summertime, full of family traditions and acquainted customs. Her summer starts off well, until Nick comes back into town. Nick is an unwelcome visitor from Lily’s past life; he is formerly her closest friend and as it turns out, her ex-fiance. Shenanigans ensue and we see Lily having to participate in multiple social meetings with Nick, and their former feelings start to creep up, creating a psychological cyclone that will alter their worlds permanently.
Williams’ other works are just as captivating, and she has won three awards for her works (under the pen name Juliana Gray). As a self-proclaimed history nut, Williams has demonstrated herself as an expert at authoring historical fiction.
