Gail Bowen was born in Toronto where she pursued her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Toronto. When she was three years old, she was able to read a time when she was diagnosed with polio later on. Other institutions that she got educated from include the University of Waterloo where she pursued her Masters in Arts and finally got a Ph.D. at the University of Saskatchewan. She later on got involved in lecturing in Saskatchewan. She is currently a professor at the First Nations University. Gail’s books are mainly detective which have become popularly known.

One of the earliest books that Gail Bowen has written is The Glass Coffin which is set in the Saskatchewan. The story is nerve-racking in that it talks about the horrible authority of the binds that link people and at the same time bring obstacles. The book continues to illustrate how a camera is able to encapsulate extreme catastrophes together with the reasons behind their occurrences. Joanne Kilbourn, one of the famous detectives in Canada has found out who the real person that Jill Osiowy, her closest comrade is intending to marry. Even MacLeish is a popular film producer who is loved by most people. However, he has a dark side; his former two wives have succumbed to suicides. In addition to that, he has tortured them and even gone ahead to produce films which narrate about their lives. This is why Joanne is sickened to discover that her pal, Jill is about to be married with Evan Joanne who is the main character in this book is also a press officer and she raised her two kids on her own. Her colleague, Alex Kequahtooway is of the native lineage.

As Jill spends her moments in the city, Joanne is busy hosting the preparations for the celebrations at her residence. Jill however is not concerned with Evan’s attributes but instead she has fallen for him. With Jill getting married she will become Bryn’s step-mom who is Evan’s daughter. Bryn is also disgusted with her dad for involving her in one of the movies. It is apparent to Joanne that the marriage is not being built on reasonable foundations given that it is also Jill’s third marriage. It is also evident that Jill has never been in successful marriages and it seems that the third one is also going to be a misfortune. She is also certain that Evans has a mystery behind him and that there is something about him that he has not yet revealed to Jill.

The occasion is interrupted by a killing which makes Joanne to step forward and assist Jill in the investigations. This leads Joanne to interfere with personal affairs of the Jill’s family as she is attempting to solve the murder case and at the same time protect Jill and her household. The inclusion of Alex as a detective in the case makes matters even difficult for Joanne.

The author is able to twist the story keeping the reader engaged and presuming what might happen. The surprises found in the story captivate the reader’s thoughts throughout until the end. The characters have been well built in a way that the reader does not miss any information in case he has not read the previous books. The conversations are also interesting and the complicated relationships between the characters are out of the ordinary. As the story proceeds, you will discover that Evan intended to marry Jill because he was eyeing her daughter who is at time seventeen years old. The incidents that take place in the book are able to take over the reader’s thoughts and in that process the pages turn themselves. The break up between Joanne and Alex helps to specialize in their personal affairs compelling the reader to keep reading.

Another remarkable book from Gail Bowen is A Killing Spring. The book has managed to attract several awards one of them being the Arthur Ellis Award which was crowned for being the top-most crime novel. The book begins with a terrifying mode whereby a head teacher of a journalism school, Reed Gallagher is discovered murdered in one of the squalid rooms. This is the institution where Joanne Kilbourn spends time teaching. Reed’s body is in a lady’s lingerie and a cable rolled around his neck which appears to be electric. The police perceive this death to be suicidal. On the other hand, Joanne is not aware that the murder is just the beginning of other endless adversities that will not only affect her career but also her private affairs. She goes ahead to break the sad news to Reed’s spouse. Several days after Reed’s demise, the school is sabotaged where the workplaces and electronic equipments are smashed and graffiti is sprinkled all over. It is at that time that one of Joanne’s students discontinues attending classes. She claims that she is being abused sexually of which Joanne does not believe. The girl who studies political classes however, is not known nor is she good-looking. When things turn out this way, the University does not seem to be the perfect place for Joanne.

Joanne’s life is also not taking a god turn as a stranger gets involved in intensifying the breakup between her and Alex. Apart from that, Joanne is shocked to discover that her closest comrade has suddenly fired her from a political board which she has been attending and participating for a long duration. Despite all these difficulties, Joanne keeps on a positive attitude. She decides to find out the real reason behind the student dropping out of school. It is in this process that she finds herself in the real campus life which is full of terror and massacres. The author is a charming writer based on the way she portrays the mysteries with Joanne’s life spicing up the plotting. The last section is also wonderfully represented when the professor falls in love with a police officer who is originally from Canada. This is interesting as it is what usually takes place in the real world. Both of these two are faced with issues of preconception which is a bit challenging especially for Joanne who has never encountered biasness before.

Your books bring me such pleasure – I could move right in with Joanne and feel at home with her tastes and thoughts. You are just so masterful at your craft. I’m reading the 2004 & 2006 Omnibus books right now. Many thanks for hours of blessings. Speaking of which, as an Anglican, I enjoy the references to that part of her life too.
