One of the successful novel series written by author Victoria Hamilton is the Vintage Kitchen Mystery series, which consists of a total of 5 novels published between the years 2012 and 2015. The series deals with the primary character named Jaymie Leighton, who is described by the author as a cookbook and cookware collector. She lives with her sister in the old family house situated in Queensville, Michigan and across the Clair river from Ontario in Canada. One of the initial novels of the series was published under the title ‘Freezer I’ll Shoot’. It was released by the Berkley publishing house in the year 2013. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Jaymie Leighton is depicted as trying to escape from her overbearing mother. She is a vintage kitchenware collector and an enthusiastic columnist. After leaving the house of her mother, Jaymie takes a retreat in her family cottage located on Heartbreak Island. While staying in the cottage, she hopes to pen down an article based on the restaurant, Ice House, which is owned by her neighbors and good friends, Garnet and Ruby Redmond. They are siblings and own the restaurant which used to be an actual ice-house once. Now, it has been very beautifully decorated with the help of all the tools of trade, with a special addition of the ice picks collection. During one night when Jaymie Leighton was working on her article, she overhears an argument at the restaurant and sets out to find and explore the truth as a sleuth. On her way, she discovers a dead body which turns her cold. It is later revealed that the dead body was of Urban Dobrinskie, who used to have a feud with the Redmond siblings. Also, the killer has used an ice pick to stab Dobrinskie at his heart. These things point the finger at the Redmonds to be the prime suspect in the murder. Now, Jaymie is required to sharpen her sleuthing skills and find enough clues to prove the innocence of her neighbors, before the murderer takes the life of another victim.
One of the other initial novels of the Vintage Kitchen Mystery series was titled ‘No Mallets Intended’. It was published by the Berkley publishing house in the year 2014. The plot of this novel deals with the mystery surrounding the grand and old Dump Mano, which gets restored by the Queensville Heritage Society. On this happening occasion, the society members and the Dumpe relatives forget their old grudges. Jaymie Leighton tries to furnish the kitchen with the Depression Era authentic collection. Her display also gets added by a vintage wooden mallet recovered from the house. But, an intruder uses the mallet to knock Jaymie off and escapes during one night. Although attack seems very surprising to everyone, there is nothing missing the vintage collection. It is thought that the intruder might be a vagrant who thought that the house was still abandoned. But soon, the resident historian of the Dumpe Manor gets murdered with the help of the mallet from Jaymie’s collection. Hence, Jaymie decides to turn to go on the trail of the killer and investigate the case before someone else gets murdered.
