Sarah Zettel is one of the critically acclaimed authors of America who has written more than 20 novels based on the fiction genre. She also popular for writing novels based on the fantasy genre. Sarah was born on December 14, 1966 in The United States. She began her writing career in the year 1988 with her debut novel titled Reclamation, which became an instant success and helped her to win the Locus Award in the category of the Best First Novel. This was followed another novel, which was included as a Notable Book in the New York Times in the year 1997. One of the other initial novels written by Sarah was named as one of the Best Young Adult Books in the year 1999. She also won the Philip K. Dick Award in the category of the best science fiction paperback for her novel Bitter Angels in the year 2009.The latest novel written by Sarah titled Dust Girl has been named as one of the best books of the young adult genre by the American Library’s Association and Kirkus Reviews. Being one of the successful authors, Sarah Zettel lives in Michigan along with her husband, son, and a cat named Buffy, the Vermin Slayer.
Sarah was born and brought up in Sacramento, California. Her father, Leonard Francis Zettel was a retired programmer and engineer, whereas her mother, Gail Beavers was a retired social worker and teacher. Before going on to become a full time author, Sarah completed her Bachelor of Arts degree from the Michigan University in the subject of Communications. Later, she got married after falling in love with a rocket scientist. Author Sarah Zettel uses the pen name C. L. Anderson on some occasions to write certain novels based on the mystery genre. Sarah has won the prestigious Philip K Dick Award and the Locus Award for multiple times in her writing career, and also been nominated on many occasions. The writing career of author Zetel has spanned over 17 years, during which she has written over 18 successful novels and a number of short stories. In addition to writing novels, Sarah likes to practice tai chi and learning to fiddle. After working hard for so many years in her personal and professional life, Sarah says that she has become tired now.
Throughout her writing career, author Zettel has written around 5 exciting novel series, one of which is ‘The American Fairy’ series. This series consists of a total of 3 novels published between the years 2012 and 2014. The first novel of this series was released by the Random House Books publishing house in the year 2012. It was titled ‘Dust Girl’ and featured the main character in the form of Callie LeRoux. The plot of the novel is set in Kansas City, United States, and revolves around the happenings in the life of the main protagonist Callie LeRoux. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Callie is introduced as being choked by the dust. She and her mother operate a hotel in Kansas, through the cracks of which the dust seems to seep through. Slowly, her lung is getting filled with the dust. In order to protect her mother from getting ill by inhaling the dust, she suggests her to leave the town, just like their neighbors, who all have already moved to different towns. Her mother refuses to leave her and go alone. She hopes that the father of Callie, who has gone for a long time, will return to help them in their miserable condition. Soon, Callie LeRoux comes to know about a long kept secret hidden by her mother just as the Midwest seems to be swept by the biggest storm in the history. She discovers that she is not just a mixed race, but a half fairy also. It seems that the fairy kin of Callie have found her in her hiding place and are coming to take her away. The only person whom Callie LeRoux can trust is Jack, who is a former bootlegger and a charming person previously helped by her to get out of jail. The plot of the novel seems to be full of the hot jazz from the Kansas City, dance marathons, the despair of the Dust Bowl, dangerous beauties, and the train yards. With the help of these elements, author Sarah Zettel has been able to create a well rooted world in the history of America as well as in magic. Throughout the novel, two fairy clans fight in a war to take the possession of a fairy girl, marked by prophecy.
The second novel of The American Fairy series written by author Zettel was titled ‘Golden Girl’. It was published by the Random House Books publishing house in the year 2013 and continued to feature the main characters in the form of Callie LeRoux and Jack, along with Paul Robeson. The plot of the novel is once again set in Kansas City, United States and deals with the happenings in the lives of the primary characters. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Callie LeRoux is shown as working at one of the major studios among the famous and stylish stars, from Kansas Dustbowl. Throughout the plot of this novel, she strives hard to search for her missing mother with the help of her friend Jack and singer named Paul Robeson, who is also the friend of Jack and Callie LeRoux. In the later parts of the novel, it is revealed that she is the daughter of the Seelie heir and the child of prophecy of the fairy kin. With her fairy powers, Callie tries to threaten the warring factions that are attached to all of the Hollywood power, knowing that she is always within the reach of them. In this novel, author Zettel has tried to shift the focus of the series from the poverty stricken Dust Bowl in the first novel to the glittering lights in Hollywood. Just like in the first novel of the series, the readers get to see the thrill of the predicament of Callie LeRoux as well as meet the historic personality of Paul Robeson, the opera singer. His character has been depicted with great dignity, strength, and grace. The readers found that author Zettel has tried to keep the stakes higher in this novel, as it can be seen in the novel that the menace and terror ratchet higher with the turning of each page of the book. This helped the novel to become extremely successful.
