Lauren Ling Brown is an American editor and writer.
She lives in Los Angeles, California. There she continues to write and work as a film editor.
Lauren loved reading when she was growing up. She would go to the library along with her mother and her sister. They would fill their arms up with a ton of books and bring home as many as they could carry.
Lauren has always been fascinated by the way that stories are able to have an influence on how we understand the world. She attended Princeton where she majored in English and then attended the USC School of Cinematic Arts, where she focused on film production and screenwriting.
She has also been employed as a cutting assistant and an editor on everything from films to television shows and documentaries and commercials for everyone from Disney to Netflix to HBO and more.
Lauren Ling Brown’s first novel is titled Society of Lies. It is a 2024 release and she is very excited about sharing it with readers and the world at large. The story is set at Princeton and follows along with Naomi and Maya. The biracial sisters end up digging up a secret society that is totally corrupt inside one of the social clubs. The story looks into concepts of privilege, sisterhood, and belonging, and is perfect for those who love thrillers, dark academia tales, and anything having to do with suspense.
Society of Lies is the debut novel from author Lauren Ling Brown. It is a Reese’s Book Club Pick and has been praised by various publications and authors. These include Julia Bartz, who confessed that she was unable to put ‘this twisty tale down’. Author Laurie Elizabeth Flynn noted that the author has established herself as a talent to watch with the debut.
Main character Maya attended Princeton years ago, and now she’s returned to attend her college reunion. She graduated a decade ago, and it’s likely been enough time to make her nostalgic. She is eagerly anticipating the event, wanting to see old faces and just reminisce about times spent there.
This visit is also unique because Maya is also going to be going to her younger sister Naomi’s graduation. It should have been the best weekend ever. But somehow things turn into Maya’s worst ever nightmare and she never saw it coming.
She gets the news out of nowhere that Naomi has passed away. The cops are saying it’s an accident. Maya doesn’t believe that this is the whole truth and is starting to think that there’s much more to this story than they are telling her or letting out right now.
Maya starts to look over the different events that happened in the months that led up to her sister passing away. As she begins to put the pieces together, she is suddenly realizing just how much she didn’t know about her sibling and the things that Naomi kept away from her.
Maya had warned her little sister about messing around with secret societies, but her sister had clearly not listened to her. Naomi had apparently joined the most exclusive social club on the campus, a club known as Sterling Club. This was the precise one that Maya had belonged to. It can’t be a coincidence that they reached out to her sister as a result.
She starts looking into things, and the more that she uncovers, the more scared she gets that Naomi doing exactly what she did is the thing that ended up getting her killed in the end. Maya had given off the impression that she had an amazing time attending Princeton, but the truth is that she had given everyone this impression on purpose. It was manufactured, and her time there had not always been completely perfect.
There had been more young women that wound up dead, but now the victim is her sister. Maya is grieving and angry that her sibling has been taken from her. She may have failed to protect her in life, but Maya is determined that she is going to avenge her in death.
With every clue that she follows up on, Maya is being led to the past and a secret that she has managed to keep for years. Can she find justice for her sister, or will she find that sometimes we just have to live with the tragedy and the pain? Read this engrossing thriller from Lauren Ling Brown to find out!
