A Fatal Blow is the first book in the Wilson & McLeish series by Janet Neel. If you have been looking for an engaging story and a mystery that will keep you reading until you get to the end, you have come to the right place! This title was previously released under the title Death’s Bright Angel.
Main character Detective John McLeish is the one you call when it comes to murder. In this latest case, an old man is found dead in a quiet street in London, bludgeoned to death. The detective is called to the scene to investigate, with all accounts indicating that William had been mugged before dying.
However, Detective McLeish has tons of experience, and there’s something here that simply doesn’t feel right. The victim of the murder did not have any enemies and there are hardly any leads there to follow.
The only thing that he really has to go on is a singular clue. This would be a gold watch that was gifted to William to mark forty years of dedicated service to Britex Fabrics. The watch has gone missing, and perhaps if McLeish can track it down he’ll find some more answers along the way.
The case is confusing, and it isn’t giving up leads easily. Eventually the detective comes to meet Francesca Wilson. The young woman is a civil servant working in the Department of Trade and Industry, and it appears that she has a unique interest in the company and the case.
There’s no problem with her helping except for the fact that John and Francesca have natural chemistry and are immediately wildly attracted to each other. That’s something that the pair are going to have to put to the side, however, as they have to focus on the case and Francesca must use her experience in the trade industry to try and help the detective get somewhere.
The only trouble is that corporate corruption is huge in the world of Britex and there are plenty of staff who want to cover up after themselves. Now McLeish and Wilson have to rely on each other and figure out who else they can trust before it’s too late and a killer claims another victim. What will happen? Read this book to find out!
A Fatal Fall is the second book in the Wilson & McLeish series by Janet Neel. If you read the first story in this series and enjoyed it, continue on to the second installment and see what you think! This story was also released originally under the title Death on Site.
Detective John McLeish has gotten closer with Francesca Wilson, and the two are enjoying some time off in the Scottish Highlands on holiday together. Imagine their surprise when they see Alan Fraser, a pro rock climber, free fall two hundred feet and live to tell the tale.
Fraser returns to the hotel and just shakes off the incident as an accident. He happens to be in Scotland along with Mickey Hamilton, his climbing partner, and the Vernon family, who own the building site in London where both of them work.
The only trouble is that Francesca could have sworn that there was someone else positioned above Fraser in the moments before his fall. McLeish is also picking up on a sinister current behind all of the happy holiday cheer.
Robert Vernon’s company has been attacked by thieves, and now Fraser is the main suspect. It doesn’t help matters that he’s having an affair with Vernon’s daughter, who also happens to be engaged. Things are feeling more tense than ever, and if there aren’t some answers soon, all heck is about to break loose.
This is the last thing that the detective anticipated while on holiday, but sometimes you just have to do your best to make plans and hope nothing bad happens. It’s just McLeish’s luck that the holiday he expected has been interrupted, but sometimes you can’t help how things turn out.
Things get even more complicated when Fraser returns to London but has another accident. This time he is at the building site and falls from the scaffolding. He’s not able to walk away this time. The accident– whether truly an accident or orchestrated– is fatal.
A toxicology examination finds out that the man was drugged, confirming that this was no accident. The climber was murdered. So who could have done this, and who could have wanted him dead? Was Fraser’s romantic dalliance the cause of his death? Could others have benefited from his demise?
Anything is possible in this mysterious case. McLeish and Fran must look at all of the details of the small and large picture if they want to figure out who did this dastardly deed. Can they crack the case and put a killer behind bars? Read this thrilling detective story from Janet Neel to find out! Pick up a copy of A Fatal Fall today and follow along with McLeish and Fran as they try to unmask a murderer.
