The time is the early twenty-first century. A space station is being built and the first ever flight to the asteroids that is actually manned has begun. Mariesa Van Huyten has a plan to give humanity the push that it needs to go back into space with the hopes that it will be able to rescue the human race from a disaster most terrible.

The only problem is that there are people out there who would do anything to stop it. But America is in trouble, and it needs this. The public schools are not helping educate children and politics is all about getting things done quickly. But Mariesa is determined to make her plans of change a reality and has the resources financially to do it.

She saw a meteor go through the sky during the day in 1972 and never forgot it. The young corporate heiress became aware of her own fear that the planet only has so much time in a solar system that is not interested in being friendly toward it. It was then that she decided that she would help to make the planet stronger than ever.

To make her plan a reality, she founds Mentor Academies, an educational subsidiary. She starts subcontracting public school systems so that a new generation can be raised that is more capable and less cynical. The program is also much bigger than that. It extends to founding a private space program, constructing an orbital power station, and bringing tech innovation back to Earth.

This is the story of individual effort and private enterprise. It’s the tale of one woman and her mission to save the planet, something that the globe eventually rallies behind and starts to work on. Her program is doing a lot of work to try and shore up an America that is crumbling to bits. But will it be enough, and can she find the strength within herself to carry on if her vision fails? Or could this be the exact moment and the exact movement that was needed to save them all? Read this book to find out!

Rogue Star is the second book in the Firestar series of novels by Michael Flynn. If you liked the adventurous ways of the first book, where Mariesa van Huyten makes every effort to save the planet from disaster, check out her continued efforts in the sequel!

There are three astronauts that are making their way beyond Mars to go to the asteroid belt. It is the first human trip of its kind. A construction crew is also orbiting the Earth and working on building what will become the first ever permanent space station which will be owned by van Huyten’s consortium.

Then there is the president of the United States, who wants her to secretly agree to a deal that will let them put weapons into the orbit so that he has the chance to intervene in all of the wars that are going on.

Van Huyten has always had a plan, and now it’s set and ready to be carried out. The only problem is that there are also people out there that would do anything to stop it. This includes killing. Is Mariesa safe, or will her vision to save humanity end up costing her everything?

Read this fascinating book and the second in the Firestar series to find out what happens and whether Mariesa will be successful in her efforts or be tripped up along the way. It’s yet another satisfying science fiction adventure from Michael Flynn that you cannot miss.
