The Scandalous Confessions of Lydia Bennet, Witch is a 2023 novel from Melinda Taub. If you loved Pride and Prejudice, you will love this remix that features some of the similar characters but in a re-imagined way with witch elements. Original and fun, give it a try if you are so inclined!
Lydia is the youngest Bennet sister, and she is the one who tells the story. According to her own perspective, she is frequently maligned. This is the story of the classic tale, but told from the point of view where Lydia pens down her own thoughts about the story and tell the events from her side.
Some of the things that she puts down may already be known to the reader. Mrs. Bennet has nerves all the time. Her husband suffers from his wife. All of the daughters are contending with dealing with their estate that can only go to male heirs and will not be within their grasp, unfortunately.
Lydia is also dealing with different affairs. Kitty is her favorite sister, but she’s also a barn cat. She perceives Wickham to be a demon and thus deserving of the wicked perception of him that the world has.
Then there’s Mr. Darcy, who has strong opinions about etiquette and will most certainly have a reaction to the topic of witchcraft. Lydia is about to find out that promises contain power when you’re a witch, and also what happens when you channel that power.
This is a story that is full of all types of magic in addition to danger, intrigue, enchantment and more. With tons of romance and strength, as well as plenty of wit, this retelling of Pride and Prejudice is a fun tale told from the point of view of Lydia, changing up the classic plot with an all new modern twist readers will love.
