Leah Mercer is a published Canadian author. She also uses the pen name Talli Roland to write romantic comedies.
She was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The first thing that she wanted in terms of her career was to be a journalist. Leah then received her master’s in journalism but when she had it she realized that she had a preference for doing anything that wasn’t reporting the news.
She has always loved writing. She has been scribbling something down for as long as she can remember, whether it was a letter to the editor or coming up with her own fake newspaper. She was able to finish her first novel at thirteen years old and even though she received rejections for it, she still remained enthusiastic about writing.
Leah tried public relations as well as teaching, editing medical journals, painting houses, and even recruitment in different countries all over the world. The author finally settled down in the city of London and got back to writing, but this time it was fiction. Her first two books were received well and made the shortlist for the Romantic Novelists’ Association Awards.
Leah is married and has a son with her husband. She enjoys reading, going running, and going to various historical houses. She can frequently be found tapping the keys on her laptop writing, doing her best not to check her social media accounts in the process.
Who We Were Before is the debut fictional novel from Leah Mercer. This book first came out in 2016. Check it out if you have been looking for something new and original to read!
Main character Zoe understands that the accident was not her fault. She knows that on some level. But it’s really difficult not to blame herself. She thinks that if she had just been able to run faster, to grasp harder, to lunge quicker, that she may have been able to save her son.
Her husband doesn’t blame her either on some level, but the things that he said to her in hasty moments are still something Zoe cannot forget. Edward would likely take them back if he could, but he also would like to take back the moment that a car killed their son and took him away from them forever.
It’s been two years since that happened, but each day that they go through seems to be touched by the tragedy still. Edward understands on some level that the pair should be starting to seek out ways of healing and taking those steps together. However, he is sick and tired of just being shut out by his partner and it’s affecting his ability to bring it up and pursue it. It seems like it’s easier for his wife to just allow herself to be led by grief.
Zoe and Edward might have a chance for reconciliation through a weekend away in Paris, but it also might be their last chance to come together. Before they can get there, the two are separated from each other. Zoe and Edward can now get back to each other if they want, while also trying to somehow return to the people that they were before this. However, they have no idea if this is even possible to achieve.
Can the grief-ridden pair find a way to connect again and to let go of their shared pain at losing their son? Or will they find that the statistics exist for a reason, and they are destined to become one of those couple that separates because they cannot bear the pain any longer and being reminded of it every time that they look at their partner’s face? Read this fascinating story from Leah Mercer to find out!
The Man I Thought You Were is the second novel to come from Leah Mercer. This book was first released for readers to enjoy in 2017.
Anna is the main character in this story. She has gotten back from work on one evening in autumn and is starting to make dinner for herself and Mark, her husband. She’s happy and waiting for him to get home so that she can welcome him in.
The day is just like any other in their seemingly perfect marriage. Until he drops the bomb on her that he’s leaving her. That was the last thing that she ever expected him to say.
Finding out that her husband and the person that she knew inside and out and could rely on to be there for her is able to leave it all behind makes her head spin. She thought that the life they had created together meant something. They had a bright future ahead of them, one that was able to fulfill them in every way, they had thought.
It had been the centerpiece of her life, and she thought it had been the center of Mark’s too. She doesn’t understand how he is able to walk away from all of this. But Mark is actually battling his own secrets and Anna doesn’t know anything about them.
Anna has no reason to suspect the things that Mark has kept hidden from her, but the truth is that the man that she married has a lot of pain in his past. He also doesn’t know what is in store for the future, and everything could be crashing down around him. He doesn’t want Anna to have to go through that and will do everything that he can to keep her from being exposed to all of this.
However, taking his time to separate and contend with the past and unravel it all is a much lonelier task than he would have anticipated. As months go on, his loyal wife is concerned that this separation may tear them apart for good.
Will Anna be able to pull her spouse in from a spiral of self-destruction or find out that the man she knew and the man he is are two different people? Read this thrilling book from Leah Mercer to find out!
